About this deal

Yet once you’ve played around with the G2s for a while, and become familiar with their foibles, they do really perform very well, and reduce massively the need to mouse around in your DAW which, after all, is the aim of the game. For larger projects add up to two more QCon Pro G2 surfaces for complete control. Works responsively thanks to USB 2.0 high speed connectivity Specifications The Icon QCon Pro G2 is a DAW controller for eight individual channels. All of these and the additional master channel are equipped with a motorized fader. There are buttons for mute, solo, record, and select, as well as panning controls. Transport controls, a jog wheel for navigation, and numerous buttons for extended functions are also integrated into the DAW software. An angled, illuminated display at the head end of the device provides information about the channel names, the currently adjustable parameters, and more.

Anyway, because it took so long to figure out the G2’s functionality, I decided to make a spreadsheet that includes most the functions I tested (I left most of the really obvious ones out, and didn’t bother mussing much with entering digits into text fields… because that’s what keyboards are for) and the G2 button combos required to execute them, as well as a list of the functions that didn’t work. I'm going to post it here in case it may help someone with a new G2 (or in case anyone is curious). Before I do that – and keeping in mind that I’ve never used an MCU – here are the biggest downsides of the G2 as compared to the MCU (and I think the XTouch would not suffer from these, but this is based only on viewing photos of it). They are knowingly selling a product that does not do what they claim. They do not support their products, do not respond to customer support requests, and their US distributor is grasping at straws in the dark. These Avid control surfaces top our charts. But there are also other control surfaces that are worthy alternatives, especially if you're on a budget or work with multiple DAWs. DAW overlays are included for Cubase/Nuendo, LogicPro, DigitalPerformer, FLStudio, Samplitude, Reaper, Studio One, Bitwig, Reasons, ProTools, Cakewalk/Sonar, Audition, Ableton Live and User define mode You have a select button that corresponds with the rotary encoder and the OLED. At the bottom, you also have four modifier keys. The first of those is the second shift key. Then we have the control, the option, and command alt. These correspond to the modifier keys and your computer keyboard. We also have four user-assignable buttons at the bottom, and those can be assigned to a wide variety of different tasks and functions. Meanwhile, the QCon EX G2 can be used either standalone — something that's not always possible with this type of controller — or to provide an additional bank of 8 motorised faders for your QCon Pro G2. Up to three QCon EX G2's can be added to the QCon Pro G2, giving you the ability to run up to 32-channels of touch-sensitive, motorised faders for comprehensive and creative control of your DAW.

HUI mode - for use with DAWs like Pro Tools - offering less functionality but in our experience better than expected. Here we have a MIDI controller for controlling DAWs and is equipped with eight-channel strips (fader + potentiometer + 4 buttons) and a master fader. There is more choice in the DAW controller with motor faders, which are still to be described as affordable. Both controllers feature support for all of the most popular DAWs on both Mac and PC, and can be used either standalone, or as part of a larger Icon setup with multiple controllers. The Master Section is topped off with a few more mouse-saving buttons for performing undo, redo and save operations in the DAW.Being a Eucon control surface, you get the deep DAW integration, for a range of DAWs and NLEs and flexibility in a versatile control surface designed for fast project turnaround. Plus, its price makes it an easier choice for freelance sound editors and mixers. Even though most modern DAW control surfaces appear similar in form and function there is an important difference under the hood that you need to aware of, which cause compatibility issues. There are a number of protocols that most control surfaces use to interface the hardware between a DAW you need to know about. All perform slightly differently depending on the DAW you use:

Trusted Shops Roll forward to August 2018 and Alan Sallabank asked whether he should buy a set of iCON control surfaces. Has iCON managed to make compromises to produce a compact control surface in the right places? Are the Platform M+ and X+ the compact controller we should be buying?Other features of the QCon EX G2 are illuminated buttons for mute, solo, record arm and channel select, a dual-function rotary encoder on every channel, and a 12-segment LED level metering bridge. But if you're using Pro Tools, there's a strong chance you're running at least a semi-professional studio.
