Space Marines (Raven Guard) – Ravenstrike Battleforce

Again, this is actually a really strong core for a Skaven Army. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t get us that excited to play it. Part of the problem is that we’ve seen most of these models in many other boxes before. If you’re an existing Skaven player you’ve probably already got everything in here. And if you’re new, thematically, we’re not sure what this Battleforce is going for besides “here’s a lot of rats and some various support units”— it’s kind of a “mixed bag” vibe to us. At least you’ve got lots of room to expand. Clan Eshins has the Gnawbomb which lets you, once per game, turn a terrain feature within 6″ into a Gnawhole for a turn. Set the trap then let your friends come in to party. For Skryre Science Wizards, their best spell is undoubtedly More-more-more Warp Power!. This spell lets a Clan Skryre unit within 12” re-roll hit and wound rolls until the next hero phase. If you’re wanting to do one big turn of devastating damage, either ranged or in melee – or both! – then this is the big hitter you’re looking for. The only downside is that, after it’s all done and dusted, the target unit will suffer D3 mortal wounds – but who cares, if the damage is already done? Didn’t fix what wasn’t broken –The fixes here are very deliberate and targeted, fun and fluffy rules have been maintained while a few of the more onerous ones were cleaned up.

The End Times saw the end of the old world, yet some seeds remained. As the World-That-Was splintered into void and different realms, the Skaven persisted, able to tunnel through the void much as they once did through the ground. Their god scattered them throughout the Mortal Realms as the realms became reborn, setting them the task of multiplying and conquering in his name. Finally we have Clan Skryre, whose powerful Warpstone Sparks ability is largely unchanged from their previous iteration, with only one major change to point out: If you have 3 Skryre heroes, you start off with d6+3 sparks instead of d3+3. The combat phase oriented ability to buff up a melee Skryre hero has also changed to simply add +1 to hit and wound for the phase, rather than hit rerolls as it had previously. Grand StrategiesTo sum it up, if you’re looking to get into the army totally from scratch this is a perfectly fine box for laying the foundation of a bigger force. It pairs well with a vanguard box, but established players probably already have all the good stuff here. Orruk Warclans

You essentially gain Look Out, Sir! in melee, taking -1 to hit in melee when you’re within 3″ of a friendly unit with 3 or more models. Scurry Away There’s really only one spell people care about, Warp Lightning Vortex which arguably was one of the best spells in the game at its peak. Sadly it got nerfed yet again, it stops running from within 3″ instead of 6″ now, and doesn’t stop flying. Real shame. Closing Thoughts Scurry Away – Instead of fighting, any of your heroes can choose to retreat, just in case they get caught alone and want to skedaddle. Firstly, you’ve got Overwhelming Mass and Strength in Numbers, which can transform even a humble unit of Clanrats into a fairly terrifying fighting force.This set comes with 26 miniatures, including a vicious Wandering Werewolf to add extra danger to your games, as well as seven double-sided dungeon tiles, a trove of useful counters and tokens, and a Death Match rulebook wrapped up in a special copy of Spike! magazine. Their Warp Lightning Cannon artillery unit can be one of the most powerful ranged weapons in the entire game. Be warned, though: when playing Skaven, you should always bear in mind that everything comes with a risk. Overcharge this cannon before firing, and you’ll get 12 chances to inflict mortal wounds on your target, however, each ‘1’ you roll will see the cannon receive D3 mortal wounds. Half the time you’ll see your opponent become a smoking crater, the other half of the time you’ll curse the dice gods as your Warp Lightning Cannon blinks out of existence; that’s simply the way with Skaven.
