About this deal

The book recommendations throughout the story have a wide range of offerings, with a sentence or two to describe why it was added as a possibility of interest and intrigue to answer an individual’s request. However, she introduced wayyy to many secondary characters that were not integral to the main plot and it just got distracting. A cosy story about the joy of stories, not only the books that are recommended for people who ask but the lives of the different people who receive them. Great books recommended and the list at the end is great which means more to add to my tbr pile and some I already have.

Along the journey there is kindness and thoughtfulness, there are situations that arise that overcome preconceptions and finding commonality along with plenty of honesty. I loved Lost For Words so I was looking forward to this but I’m afraid I found it very disappointing. This sparks an idea in Loveday, and she realises that there is something positive they can do to help people get through the crisis while also helping the business. There are a real range of reasons that people turn to books when they are compulsorily stuck at home from domestic abuse through loneliness, insecurity, love stories and the inevitable deaths from COVID. While I've read thousands and have a sizeable home library, few books have ever begged me to read them again.

It was heartbreaking to hear their stories, especially as I was pretty sure they would be based on true accounts. It is not one I could recommend to everyone without explaining the triggers of which there are a lot. The poignancy of characters and story was phenomenal and it will forever be one of my favourite books. Overall this is an intelligent, refreshing and heart warming book that I adored, and would recommend to everyone who reads - so that's all of you! While a tad informal, I thought the writing very good, as is the characterisation even with so many people.

However, it was a joy to read and I love the idea of a book pharmacy and even reading this book will give you lots more to add your “to read lists”. But, these lockdowns were so different to the way my own country, New Zealand, experienced lockdowns that they didn't even seem like lockdowns. Everything Stephanie Butland wrote about about that period was so relatable, even though the story was set in York - thank you. I was surprised at the number of books I’d already read, but even more delighted with the number of books I haven’t even heard of.

I like the concept of the book, as book lovers we already know the joy of reading and the idea of prescribing books as a form of medicine or a remedy is a good one. However, there is enough references to understand the main characters in this novel and what had happened previously. Now she is happier, healthier, and more careful with her precious life and the precious people and things in it. In het boek lees je over de boekverkopers, maar leer je ook alle klanten met hun specifieke boekverzoeken kennen. I adored this novel but I cautiously recommend it, as I am aware that the Covid-19 pandemic is ongoing and a novel about it may be triggering for some people.

This beautifully written novel is a tribute to all independent booksellers who have always been creatively bringing readers and books together to comfort, educate, transform, escape, remember, hope, and dream. There’s also a family where the father is a paramedic who decides to isolate from his wife and children. I loved the quotes and the chapters where it feels that Stephanie Butland is talking to me personally about the power of books and reading. Personally I found it quite a cathartic read and it helped me process some of my lingering emotions around my own lockdown experience.

This book tells the story through multiple different character POVs and gives some brilliant book recommendations along the way, prescribing reading as a form of therapy which I'm always on board with. By participating in the Kindle App Challenge this first Qtr, I completed 3 books for the month of January. Others flit in and out of the book and we get to know their situations and the unique pressures facing each of them at that time. So I made the purchase, and then read over half the book on the flight, finishing it a few days later.
