About this deal

I have never understood the shape and usefulness of the plastic top on these (any) pegs and they are usually broken easily by a misplaced hammer blow (ouch! Given their longitudinal holding capacity, they can hold in the ground while being pulled straight in line with the peg and rope, so we had to adapt our techniques to suit. Over the couple of years that we had it the corner that you hit got so flattened down that they would snap off, and you’d be left with just a piece of straight peg. Aaron Schubert is a 4WD and camping nut, who's a qualified Maintenance Planner and Mechanical Fitter, and has extensive Industrial Maintenance experience.

Another pack of 20 tough awning pegs for hard standings, though this time they are from another reputable company – Outdoor Revolution. The finer flutes on the shaft clogged with dirt, rendering it of little use for ground-holding ability.Far superior in grip to that of ordinary pegs, Megascrew's premium quality is relied upon time and time again!

Working the in the industry I have recommended these to other vanner's upon collection of their vans. With my drill I just wind the appropriate peg into the ground and the job is secure until I need to move. Intricately designed to manipulate terrain, all the hard work is below the surface and with the help of a battery drill your work is minimal! However, as hard standings, you’ve guessed it, are hard, it is not only difficult to knock normal camping pegs into that kind of surface, it’s virtually impossible. One thing to consider with the nail types is there are two basic designs, ones with a t-bar welded on about an inch down from the head and ones with a plastic block at the head.If you do decide to upgrade your pegs, you can continue to use your wire tent pegs for less critical areas of your tent. The Caravan Supermarket has 35 years experience in the caravan and camping industry and is based in Birmingham.

Therefore, to make it possible to pitch your awning and get the full benefit of that enclosed and covered space, even on a hard standing, you need special pegs. I have tried those screw in ones and yes they do need a drill and really not had much success especially on some of the club's hard-standings an found it 'easier' as above. There’s even been times where I’ve given up trying to knock a traditional peg into a hard ground, because its just too hard on the gear. Being a screw-in design, a hammer is replaced by a 12V drill, although a shifter, spanner, ratchet or a hand brace (like your caravan leg winder) can be used to insert and extract the pegs. Thanks to thick durable steel, this type of tent peg is extremely durable and unlikely to bend or break. We have a dedicated page that offers a variety of ultra-durable and worthwhile tent pegs, including full packs of all of the best tent peg types – and the mallets to go with them!
