The Victorian interest in botany went hand in hand with the Victorian interest in the “language of flowers”. I find it fun as well as interesting to look through books like this and someday I'll actually use the information in some way.

A dark blotch on her white sheet of professional accomplishments: For Victoria has been a foundling baby, abandoned at an age that usually makes finding families willing to adopt an easy task.

Kept reading because it was a choice of my book group and it actually did not take too much time - considering I'd frequently skim mention of specific flowers.

After discovering additional flower meanings, Victoria is encouraged by Grant to make her own dictionary; he gifts her a camera to take pictures of flowers at his farm. With Renata and her mother’s help, Victoria gives birth to a baby girl and is struck with motherly love. I think I loved the 'past' chapters marginally more than I liked the "present" ones, for I adored Elizabeth. So many people walk around with a vague feeling of discontentment without ever understanding what it is that’s making them feel dissatisfied.
