Description

This is what ebook readers should have been years ago (Sony tried with the PRS-700 but it didn't catch on back then). Elon Musk announced on Friday he is temporarily putting the Twitter deal on hold pending a review of fake/spam account data.

Up until an update in January 2022 Kobo readers required connection to the Internet during the initial setup phase and did not work until they were connected to Kobo's servers; however, they now support "sideload mode," which allows the reader to be used without registering it to a Kobo account, [27] Kobo e-readers support viewing KEPUB (Kobo's proprietary ebook format based on the EPUB format), EPUB, Adobe PDF, plain text, HTML, and unprotected Mobipocket (MOBI, PRC) e-books.The LEDs themselves are positioned at the bottom of the device and let loose their light across the screen much as an edge LED-backlit LCD TV does, although the e-ink pearl panel used by the Kobo Glo ensures that the light is streak-free and totally even. Within a separate Extras menu within Settings, the Glo offers Chess, a rudimentary sketch pad, Sudoku and a web browser. There's an Extras section accessible from the settings menu that provides access to some additional features. It comes in four shades, blue, red, silver and black, although the pastel shades of the Kobo eReader Touch have been swapped for more vivid colours. koreader: Excellent alternative reader with Calibre server integration and a rudimentary RSS reader.

This will not be covered by accidental warranty, because "Kobo strongly advises not to manually update your eReader". Overall, the Kobo Glo has some annoying quirks and a few deficiencies, but it's still one of the better choices for a dedicated ebook reader. The Kobo library contains free or low-cost versions of classic books, but good luck finding them via the Glo.

They’re hardly selling points by themselves, but may come in handy on long journeys when your phone’s out of juice.

Though that’s not a record for an E Ink device, it’s definitely good for an e-reader with a built-in light and Internet connectivity. The only thing I don't like with the way Kobo's ereaders display text is there is too much wasted space. It's comfortable to hold with one hand for long periods of time, and it's just small enough to fit in a jacket pocket.

The Glo doesn’t do reflowable text, so you’re left with having to move the page on the screen if the zoom is high.I like my reader to roughly mirror what a real-life paperback page looks like, but you can fit loads more in if you like.
