And they’re always interspersed with fond reflections on life back in England, from Salford joy riders to what his girlfriend’s mum and dad have for dinner on a Thursday (it’s chops and veg, in case you’re wondering).

He made his acting debut on 12 April 2012 in the Channel 4 comedy-drama Derek, portraying caretaker and bus driver Dougie. Pack your suitcase and take an irreverent trip with Karl Pilkington to the furthest corners of Europe. The amount of joy Karl's words of wisdom bring to me when my mood is black and I feel hopeless is worth an unlimited amount of stars.

Steve and Ricky set him going - and then we laughed along with them at his ridiculous, outlandish statements. If nothing else, this book settled the question for me of whether Karl is a comedy genius or just an idiot. I liked how Stephen and Ricky always had something mean planned for him and that Karl didn't know what was going on until it actually happened. It probably helps on the show to see him experiencing his trips; in the book, all we get are his thoughts on what already happened. It’s also a little bit like Bill Bryon’s Neither Here Nor There in which it makes travelling sound kind of…well, terrible.
