About this deal

Other than my general opinion of Tom King's writing, I didn't have any idea of what to expect of this story, no clue what it was about.

Batman: Killing Time - The Batman Universe TBU Collected Review: Batman: Killing Time - The Batman Universe

Sánchez's colors and Cowles' reliably exciting lettering make the pages even better and give the story vibrant, dynamic energy and momentum. For the past several years, Tom King has been writing Batman in one way or the other, be it the main title, miniseries, or one-shots featuring Elmer Fudd that stand up as some of the finest Batman content the world has to offer, full stop. A bit more violent than your typical Batman story but has some aspects of Indiana Jones/Pulp Fiction. The hardcover release of Batman: Killing Time uses David Marquez’s main cover for the first issue, a standard but still quite a fun composition featuring Batman looming over Riddler, a slinky Catwoman, Killer Croc, Penguin, a racing car, and an open bank vault. February 26: Croc, motivated by his former girlfriend Vera Angleton’s disgust at his current form, decides to be the patsy for Riddler’s plan. She pulls out her gun, saying she doesn’t have any more money, but Batman tackles her from the air as she fires at Catwoman. We don’t find out the significance of this until the end not only for its connection to the mystery item but also in understanding the point of the story. The comic book author, who penned The Vision, Mister Miracle, and The Sherriff of Babylon, wrote 85 issues of DC's main Batman title, taking over for Scott Snyder. Only the Dark Knight stands between this strange new villain and his prey…but can even Batman stop his bloody rampage?

Having made a name for himself at DC as one of the best Batman artists, David Marquez’s work is top-notch here, presenting hyper-realistic, hugely detailed art. As somewhat a Tom King completist, I found Batman: Killing Time to be one of his most disappointing titles, which gets too fixated in its experimental storytelling that the whole experience feels emotionally cold.

Unlike his Batman run and Batman/Catwoman, King didn’t focus on the romance between Batman and Catwoman at all. Two of the new, colorful rogues, Riddler and Catwoman, have just pulled off the heist of the century, robbing Wayne-Gotham Securities, getting away with 1. Tom King · David Marquez Batman: Killing Time (Volume 1) was a limited series, published by DC Comics. Despite the beautiful, incredibly sexy, and energetic art by veteran superstar artist David Marquez (a new collaborator with King), the message of this miniseries is much, much more nihilistic than the messages of both his main Batman run and his Batman/Catwoman run, both of which try to show the meaning and help that love and family can bring to a life of trauma (A small link between Catwoman and the Joker early in the chronology of the run provides an Easter egg for fans of King’s Batman/Catwoman series, which shows that relationship developing throughout their lifetimes. Editor’s Note: DC Comics provided TBU with copies of the original issues of this series as they were released but not of this new edition.

Following the run's conclusion, he's worked on a follow-up Batman/Catwoman maxiseries alongside Clay Mann, Liam Sharp, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles. For 3000 years, the Eye of God traveled from Ancient Greece to Gotham, surrounded by the legend that if you held it, you controlled the world. The blockbuster team of Tom King and David Marquez bring an epic, white-knuckled, action-packed tale of a young Batman desperate to recover his most prized possession from a host of violent rogues before the clock strikes the Killing Time.Tom King and David Marquez are teaming up for a brand new miniseries, Batman: Killing Time, which will see some of Gotham City's most iconic villains trying to pull off the great heist ever.

The Help gives Vera (Croc’s flame) the money for being Penguin’s patsy, telling her not to spend it. The Clock King gives it away before Batman can even catch up to him, pawning it to a plane stewardess on his flight. A new villain is introduced, the execution was fine—but it’s definitely too convoluted and has little pay off, despite the constant drawing out of the mystery and its parallels, making it feel underwhelming and a bit forgettable.

The Help trips Catwoman, and she loses the Eye as they fight, and it rolls down the hill, picked up by Clock King, the Fourth Man in Riddler’s plan, and he holds the world. And as they move about the city they’re hunted by an inexperienced Batman who knows two things: One, he’ll need to be better than he’s ever been to catch these two psychopaths; two, Penguin survived and if he gets to them first, it’ll be a bloodbath like Gotham’s never seen. Riddler, Catwoman, and Killer Croc heist something valuable from a safety deposit box belonging to Bruce Wayne, kicking off an intense chase involving backstabbing, the US government, large sums of cash, and many, many deaths.
