About this deal

As to be expected with a bright aperture prime, the Sigma experiences some heavy vignetting wide-open, with 1 1/3 stops light lost in the extreme corners. The good news is stopping down even to F1.8 shows a great improvement. Comparing the lenses at a closer distance – in this case, about 1.5 metres away from the subject – reveals a different story.

And speaking of rings, the manual focus ring is YUUUUGE. Personally I like the massive manual focus ring and its reassuring rubber grip. Although focus is by wire, the ring appears to have been dampened. It turns with a smooth buttery feel. When manually focusing this lens wide open, you will want all of the control you can muster. The focusing ring is massive and to top it all off, there’s a nice little “C” badge (signifying the lens as being part of the “contemporary” lineup). Two random portrait samples. A scaled down version of the FX format Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens, this standard prime for APS-C format cameras is less than two-thirds the physical length and barely more than half the weight. Even so, it’s twice as heavy as Nikon’s 35mm DX prime lens, mostly due to the Sigma having a faster aperture rating. Otherwise, using the lens is more or less the same experience as working with it on a Fujifilm or other manufacturer’s camera. It benefits from fast, accurate and quiet autofocusing. It’s ideally suited as an everyday lens, and would make a reasonably good choice as perhaps your only lens for a day trip or similar outing.Despite fairly heavy (–1.7EV) corner shading at f/1.4, close down 1 stop and vignetting on the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DN is comparable to the Zeiss 32mm f/1.8 and better than the Sony E 35mm f/1.8 Sony lens deserves to be mentioned better about these 2 points. OSS and size. Because it's possible to take a sharper picture with Sony in low light handheld. Sony will give a better picture when: Although none of the lenses feature weather-sealing, they all sport a solid barrel made of a mix of high grade plastics and metal. Holding them in the hand, the 35mm f/1.8 comes across as the least robust of the three because there is less metal covering the exterior. massive dark corners if used on a full frame camera. This 30mm lens has an angle of view similar to a 50mm lens on a

There's also some distortion. If you shoot JPGs you won't need to worry about it, since it will be automatically fixed in camera. If you like to develop RAW files, well, you'll want to correct the distortion. If you have tried the FE28, then you know the drill. Again, it's not really a big deal in these digital days. a much better lens would be the Sony DT 35/1.8). Sigma claims the use of two "ED" glass elements and one aspherical element in the construction of the lens. The high number of complex elements and heavy vignetting mean that while the Sigma reports a maximum aperture of F1.4, the actual total amount of light that passes through the lens ends up being T1.8. Between f/5.6 and f/11, the results are so close that it is nearly impossible to tell them apart. Peak sharpness is found at f/5.6 and diffraction begins to appear by f/8. the same as Sony's SSM, or in-the-lens focusing motor. As a result of this omission, the Sony version is about 3.5oz (100g) Downsides? HOLY PURPLE FRINGING, BATMAN! When shooting wide open, sometimes high contrast areas can exhibit signs of lateral chromatic aberration in the form of purple fringing. Yes, The Artist Formerly Known As Prince (may he rest in peace) would have loved this lens.

This quarter-frame crop shows the slight purple and green axial chromatic aberration that can occur when shooting wide-open (Image credit: Matthew Richards) Here’s what it looks like mounted to the Canon T3i and the Sony Alpha A55 for comparison. Also worth noting is the finish on the Sony version of this lens is a bit different. It has almost a soft textured finish on it that the Canon version of this lens does not have. See below for a closer look at what I mean. Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC Lens on Canon T3i Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC Lens on Sony Alpha A55 Looking at the three lenses side-by-side at their respective maximum apertures, we can see that the 30mm f/1.4 provides the softest, most pleasant out-of-focus rendering. All three have round specular highlights (bokeh balls) at the centre which gradually lose their shape as they get closer to the edges. The 35mm f/1.8 and 30mm f/1.4 produce the most distinct “cat’s eye” bokeh balls in the corner. Sigma 30mm f/1.4 at f/1.4 Sony 35mm f/1.8 at f/1.8 Sigma 30mm f/2.8 at f/2.8Probabilmente se siete arrivati a valutare questo obiettivo o state cercando un upgrade dal 16:50 in kit, o avete bisogno di tale apertura. There is some visible barrel distortion, about 2.8 percent, which is something we expect from a wide-angle lens, but not so much one with a more standard angle of view, which the 30mm provides. The distortion means that straight lines are drawn with an outward bulge, and because it's a third-party lens, automatic correction isn't an option. You can remove it easily using software— Adobe Lightroom Classic CC is our favorite, and the most popular option. The fast f/1.4 aperture is amazing and can create incredible separation and bokeh effects that are sure to please and this lens is very affordable considering the huge heavy chunks of glass. In terms of chromatic aberration, the Sigma puts up a fairly decent performance. There is some lateral CA but this is easily removed, either by the camera or most editing software.

Overall I am happy with the lens 🥳🥳. I would like to move closer and move away with Sigma 30mm to get a good shot rather than just rotating the zoom ring of SEL18135.

Correction for various types of aberration provided by two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element and a hybrid aspherical lens Another trade-offforhavingan F1.4 maximum aperture in a relatively small lens is fairly severe barrel distortion that is easily detected in any scene with straight vertical elements. Without correction, it has potential to be a bit distracting. The popularity of the a5000 and a6000/a6300/a6500 series coupled with the affordability and suitability of these three primes for a variety of genres means that they are amongst the most sought-after lenses for any camera system.
