About this deal

The app does standard mixing stuff like loops, hot cues, and pre-cueing. It’s also got fantastic performance additions. Many actions are meant to be performed in-app only and there are no shortcut buttons for them on the DDJ-200 (such as choosing different sound FX and performance pad modes). Also when buying a used DDJ-400 make sure that the Rekordbox DJ license comes with it or if the previous owner is able to transfer the license to you. It has a digital sampler that uses the controller’s 16 performance pads to trigger the sounds. My friends have hours and hours of fun mixing with the samplers.

Pioneer DDJ200 (Black) | 2-channel Smart DJ Controller

Portability is the controller’s main design strength. The Pioneer DDJ 200 is minuscule and featherweight compared to a standard DJ controller. The DDJ-400 on the other hand features a sound card and an RCA output and you will be able to connect your speakers directly to the unit using appropriate cables. DDJ-200 & DDJ-400 output sections

A simple 5v 20,000mAh power bank can supply power to the DDJ-200 for several hours. Compatible DJ Apps The controls are very rudimentary on the DDJ 200, but they get the job done well. Each channel has a 3-band EQ suitable for cutting or bumping low, mid, or high frequencies. An FX filter knob will sweep the high or lows for added mixing flair. The two-channel smart DJ controller has simple controls in a small, lightweight design. You can mix off a mobile app or computer via Bluetooth or USB cable port.

For the simplest connection to your source, go for a wireless, Bluetooth connection. Or, if you prefer to be wired in, simply plug the DDJ-200 into your PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone with a USB cable, or connect to your iPad or iPhone with a Lightning cable and start mixing your music using the compatible DJ software or app of your choice. The DDJ-200 doesn’t feature a microphone input so you won’t be able to use your mic with the device unless you are using an external audio mixer. The conclusion: A long time favourite amongst the mobile DJ community, Algoriddim’s fantastic DJay application (read our review here) is probably best known for its Spotify streaming integration. With Pioneer DJ not releasing the WeDJ on iPad yet, Algoriddim Djay will become the leading contender for using an iPad with the DDJ 200. A set up we enjoy due to the larger screen and magnetic stands currently available. While shopping for your ideal DJ controller (this also goes for DJ headphones, speakers, and all your other DJ technology) it’s essential to define your level of DJing proficiency. Lower-end models are barebones with limited creative tools.

What Equipment Do You Really Need To DJ? – Gear Recommendations Both devices feature only 2 mixer channels. I’ve been that guy lugging around several pieces of gear from show to show, and it gets exhausting. Algoriddim has done a fantastic job of mapping the controller to work flawlessly straight away. Even the crossfader activates a filter as you sweep across when you select the transition FX. Note you will have to choose the split output in the settings to activate the cue buttons, but this makes complete sense as you wouldn’t be able to cue without the output enabled. In conclusion, the Pioneer DDJ-400 is a better choice hardware wise and overall a better choice for a beginner. It offers much more for a little more money, has a standalone Rekordbox software license bundled with it and is more comfortable to use. All that while still keeping a somewhat portable form factor. Is it worth getting a used DDJ-400? There is also quite a large difference in weight where the DDJ-200 weighs around 4 pounds (1.8 kg) and the DDJ-400 around 7 pounds (3 kg). There is also a considerable difference in size.

The controller comes with a headphone splitter that starts from your phone or laptop and splits to your headphones and speaker, both using 3.5mm outs. You can’t, therefore, connect to a pair of speakers without a mixer, or a 3.5mm to RCA cable.Connecting the DDJ 200 to Djay is as easy as scrolling through the settings to MIDI Devices, then select Bluetooth MIDI Devices. From here we can connect to the DDJ 200, and away we go. Unlike the Pioneer WeDJ application, Algoriddim Djay has to work with a variety of devices so don’t have the option of changing the pad modes. However, out of the box, the top row of performance pads activate loops, the bottom row activates hot cues. We can hold shift and enable rolls on the top row and delete hot cues on the lower.
