About this deal

While Bergara was registered as a lorry loader after moving to the UK with his English wife, his actual job was completely different. Instead of working for a haulage company owned by the Luton Town chairman, he plied his trade at Kenilworth Road as the Hatters’ youth team coach. This fundraising appeal will be supported by a series of events and initiatives, including the Hatters Half marathon – www.hattershalf.co.uk, ‘make us an offer’ auctions, a dedicated evening for Danny, proceeds from the County supporter’s calendar and much, much more! Edgeley Park is the closest league football ground to the River Mersey – it is actually closer than Liverpool's Anfield, Everton's Goodison Park or Tranmere Rovers' Prenton Park.

Danny Bergara - Wikipedia

For the 1998-99 season, he was manager of Grantham Town, who had just won promotion to the Southern League Premier Division. He was brought by the club’s controversial chairman Reg Brearley. The Vernon stand also homes the gantry for the club where all the footage for the club is recorded and where commentary takes place. In the late 1990s, after the recent major development at the Cheadle End of the ground, County chairman Brendan Elwood announced plans to rebuild the Railway End. The plan would have involved purchasing The Bungalow behind it, on which a hotel would have been built by Britannia Building Society, which would have overlooked the ground. However, like other Millennium-related projects, these plans never came to fruition. Bergara coached the reserve teams at Luton Town and Sheffield United before getting his first managerial job at Rochdale in August 1988. In this Spanish name, the first or paternal surname is Bergaraand the second or maternal family name is Medina. Danny Bergara

Daniel Alberto Bergara de Medina (24 July 1942 – 25 July 2007) [2] was a Uruguayan footballer and manager. Danny Bergara was a lorry loader. Or at least that’s what his work permit said when the Home Office stamped its approval for his first job in Britain.

The Main Stand seats 2,020, of which 405 are executive seats and contains players' changing rooms and some club offices, as well as toilets, boardroom and several bars for half-time refreshments. The team dugouts are situated at the front of the Main Stand. In July 2020; due to the COVID −19 pandemic in the UK, sporting venues had their capacities cut. Edgeley Park capacity was reduced to 2,700. However no fans were allowed into the stadium for the start of the 2020–21 season. This did not stop the stadium being redeveloped with new seating put into the Railway End, and new external cladding added to the Cheadle End. In his first full season Danny led his team to their first ever ‘play-off’ experience, which ultimately ended in disappointment, but placed in true context of the club’s achievements over the previous twenty years, it was to prove to be the beginning of a massive turnaround masterminded by the Uruguayan. La familia Bergara es sinónimo de fútbol en el Racing de Montevideo. [3 ] Su hermano Ignacio Bergara era también futbolista. Here, when you’re a kid, you play 11-a-side for cups and championships. When you join a club as a professional, you play five-a-sides. It should be completely the other way around.” He started to get itchy feet,” explains Phil Brennan, who wrote Bergara’s 2013 biography The Man From Uruguay. A string of poor results saw Bergara become the club’s Director of Football and Chief Scout, with Tony Kenworthy, becoming manager. Later he scouted for Sunderland. The plaudits didn’t lead to greater things, though. After two years working for England, Bergara found himself out of a job when Sheffield United were relegated to the fourth tier. The club management job he craved took a further five years to materialise, and Brennan believes Bergara’s nationality played a part.

A brief spell at Doncaster Rovers followed, during which time the club were featured in the 1998 Channel 5 ‘fly-on-the-wall’ documentary “They Think It’s All Rovers”. It’s possible that, in a little way, I helped open the way for the likes of Mourinho and [Sven-Goran] Eriksson,” Bergara told Observer Sport Monthly in 2006. “Now though, there are too many foreigners in English football.” Amazingly the following weekend saw him proudly lead his side out at the same venue again, in the Play-off Final against Peterborough United. Bergara was to lead his team out twice more at the World’s most famous stadium over the next two seasons, once each in the Autoglass Trophy and play-off finals. The Railway End, at the east end of the stadium, is a former uncovered terrace that at one time could hold up to 6,000. In 2001, it was the last part of Edgeley Park to be converted to seating, thus making the ground all-seated, and it is now generally used to house away supporters. Still open to the elements, and with a capacity of around 1,366, the Railway End is currently the smallest of all stands in the ground. The stadium scoreboard is located at the rear of the Railway End.Palmarès [ modifica | modifica wikitesto ] Giocatore [ modifica | modifica wikitesto ] Competizioni nazionali [ modifica | modifica wikitesto ] Edgeley Park appears in Rugby Challenge 2 as one of 5 licensed English stadiums. The stadium also appears on EA Sports Rugby 08.

A consultation is in place to increase the capacity of the stadium to 20,000 from the 10,841 that it currently holds. However, all development will be dependent on how the club performs in the league. Phase One will replace the East Stand (or Railway End) from the current 1,366 seats (without a roof) to approximately 4,500 seats (with roof). This will make it similar to the existing West Stand (or Cheadle End) albeit with a slightly lower capacity. Plans are for construction to start in 2023. Phase Two will be to rebuild the South Stand (otherwise the Pop Side, Family Stand or Barlow Stand), increasing the stand's capacity from 2,411 to 6,500 seats. Phase Three relates to the Main Stand (the Danny Bergara Stand) and would expand the existing stand to the full length of the pitch. This would mean an increase in capacity from just over 2,000 to around 3,500 seats. At the end of that season Bergara became the first County boss in history to lead a team out at Wembley Stadium when the team faced Stoke City in the Autoglass Final, in doing so he became the first manager born outside the UK, to lead an English club side out at The National Stadium.
