When a player adds a boarding house to his estate, he immediately takes 4 worker tiles from the general supply and adds them to his own. Players can use the result of any die to obtain worker tiles. They simply trade in their die for two worker tiles from the supply. The central depot Market – the player may take a blue ship or light green animal tile from any numbered depot and add it to their supply; Important: Each of the 8 building types may only occur once per city (= a region of connected beige spaces). Depending on the estate, there may be between 2 and 6 cities of different sizes (1 to 8 spaces). Estate No. 1, for example, has 4 cities: one 1-size, one 5-size and two 3-size.

Identical (random) board for all players: all players play with the same board, randomly chosen among available boards. You get the base game, with redesigned components, eight, yes, eight expansions, one of which is new to this edition, a single-player mode, team mode, new boards, tiles and so, so much cardboard. Having only played the standard game before this I was itching to see what else was in the box and what new things it had to offer me. Non obvious is subjective, the choice made was to display only tiles that can be placed and possible estate / duchy destinations for the Place tile action, and tiles that can be taken for free from the main board, with a church, market or carpenter.Note: In the three-player game only, there is an exception for the dark green space in the No. 6 depot: In phases A, C and E a castle is placed onto it as normal, but in phases B and D a mine (grey) is placed there instead! Yes you should Player Games- Kind of a mix of both, as you can’t plan for something to come out 100% but there is still planning you can do. A player may take one tile from their display and add it to their estate. The tile must be placed in a way which matches both the colour of the tile and the roll of the die used to place the tile. In addition, each tile must be placed directly next to another tile already on the player’s board. Once a six sided tile is added to your estate you cannot move it later on in the game.

Important: The animal tiles must be part of the same pasture but do not need to be immediately adjacent to the newly-placed animal tile. Tiles with the same animal on them on other pastures are not scored.

The Actions

The gameplay may sound a little complex but it’s dead simple once you get the gist. There’s not a huge amount of player interaction and therefore has minimal conflict – aside from perhaps getting a tad peeved that another player nabbed your sought after tile.
