About this deal

Marlowe, Sam (2023-06-28). "Review: Tom Gates at Richmond Theatre". ISSN 0140-0460. Archived from the original on 2023-06-28 . Retrieved 2023-06-28. Yep, I said it. I stopped after reading the second Wimpy Kid book because I thought Greg Heffley was one of the meanest, nastiest kids I'd ever read about. He's cruel to his best friend, not to mention his family (personally, I thought he tormented his brother rather than the other way around). I just could not like Greg, and had a hard time figuring out why the kids love that series so much. British author and illustrator Liz Pichon began her career as a graphic design artist creating cover art for a music label. As her art style developed, she began selling prints on a wide range of products. In 2004, she published her first book both written and illustrated herself called Square Eyed Pat. She has since published several other books outside of the Tom Gates series. Pichon has no plans to stop creating Tom Gates books, nor other books! Her latest book outside of the Gates series is called Shoe Wars, published in 2020, and features a large cast of hilarious characters. He's no Hermione Granger. Tom will leave his homework to the last minute, hide his sister's stuff just to be a pain, even fake letters to get out of lessons he dislikes. Normal kid if a little over-the-top (some very funny letters from his 'parents' though).

Tom reads us his journals about everyday life, his family (older sister and how he makes her life miserable), his school (how he tries to get out of homework), his band and love for his favourite bands (Dog Zombies and Dude Three - cool names). In this recent recipient of the 2011 Roald Dahl Funny Prize, readers will find an honest, silly and laugh-out-loud book in the format of Tom's battered homework diary, crammed full of his scribbles and stories. Here's my EXCELLENT PLAN to make DOGZOMBIES the BEST band in the WHOLE W I D E W O R L D! How hard can it be? (Very.) Right now I'm going to: This quirky, funny, highly-illustrated, fiction series follows life’s ups and downs of chaotic but loveable Tom, Delia, his old sister, his parents and of course his best friend Derek and his arch enemy, Marcus. Written by award-winning author and illustrator Liz Pichon, Tom is a master of excuses (especially when it comes to homework), creative storyteller and doodler and middle-school comedian extraordinaire. Most of the story revolves around things that happen at school. There are teachers he likes and doesn’t like, and children who he has difficult relationships with as well as his mates. The books are filled with jokes and really dynamic illustrations. My son will laugh out loud.

Tom Gates 21: Five Star Stories by Liz Pichon | Waterstones

The fourteenth title in the bestselling series, from the brilliantly talented Liz Pichon. This book is VERY important because it contains BISCUITS,... Even though ultimately it was useless, some parts were funny! Tom Gates was acting too young for his age, I mean I have a brother who's about the same age and he's so not like this. To all those who're saying every child is different and unique, don't you think that "They put my arm in a bandage ( I was very brave)" is too much even for a 10 year old? 🤷 Researching his new idea, "Family, Friends and Furry Creatures", Tom discovers that his grandparents aren't really called the Wrinklies and the Fossils, that his Dad has a guilty secret about Uncle Kevin and a famous footballer, and that his parents ended up together thanks to a piece of cake! His sister Delia is the main focus of his pranks, but I could see so much of me and my brother in their relationship that it just made me laugh.

I had a 5- and 11-year old giggling along to this in the car over the course of a few school runs. And we've moved straight to book 2 now as well. It was a fantastic book because all of tom's friend's wanted to help fundraise for the local library .But the other school called great manor beat the... Not me wasting an hour of my life reading Tom gates just because my cousin happened to buy it and not at all because it seemed cool

Tom grows up in each book and the vocabulary develops. Tom Gates author Liz Pichon has added to the collection since my daughter stopped reading them. You can read them as stand-alone books too! And finally, start marking your calendar, because @janesetheridgecame up with one to watch: 'It's not out until April, but I'd recommend Planet Omar by Zanib Mian, illustrated by Nadaya Mafaridik.' We can't wait! I enjoyed this much more with members of the appropriate audience, they are lovely and short as well for a listen, though I know we missed lots of illustrations/diagrams/visual jokes by audio-reading. Some good sound effects though and Grint does the voices very well. The twelfth title in the bestselling series, from the brilliantly talented Liz Pichon. Mr Fullerman has a class assignment: a family tree! Tom's re... I remember reading one random book from the series and wishing I could doodle as well as Tom 😂(it was years ago!) This book is one of the most popular book in Britain! Not many books have lots of pictures, and funny bold words, and this book does! I've read all Tom Gates books, which are all fantastic, especially this book. I think this book is very funny. Tom tries to get away with doing as little as possible at school and at home, and while he’s happy and good-natured, he thoroughly enjoys tormenting his sister. Petunia Perry is writing her memoir to fully explain why she's no longer friends with Cammy - and why, therefore, she and Cammy's band are unlikely to be the Next Big Thing.

Do you think Tom Gates should get away with his homework excuses? Is it fair that his teacher gives him so many chances? There’s a bit of trivia about the things that interest Tom and his friends, and a British-to-American English glossary, but most of the information surrounds Tom’s plans to get out of doing homework. Creative Play

I found a lot of similarities between this book and "Diary Of A Wimpy Kid" series. It's obvious that they belong to the same genre and I think anyone who loves that series would love this series too ,but I also think that while Tom is younger than Greg ,the story of this book is more mature and realistic than Jeff Kinney's masterpiece.(I still like that series,I just like this series more.)
