About this deal

They weren't as twisty or suspenseful as I liked but it's hard to maintain that level of drama when a story is short; some were predictable but still worth a read. Actor Lee delivers an excellent, nuanced performance in this audio edition of the latest installment of Nesbø’s Harry Hole series. As the book opens, former detective Hole is an instructor at a Continue reading »

The audiobook is just over 19-hours long, however I felt the hours just slip away as I listened, usually entrhalled. Some of the stories were reminiscent of Roald Dahl's unexpected tales, as they were dark with clever twists. The settings were interesting and varied also, which added to my enjoyment.

Retailers:

We loved each other, officer. We more than loved each other. We were the air each other breathed, we kept each other alive, do you understand? No, of course, why should you?’ Long a fan Jo Nesbø’s writing, I was curious about this collection of short stories and novellas. While I have come to love Harry Hole and how he emerges as an energetic character, as well as Nesbø’s standalone novels, I was not sure about handling a slew of the author’s creations in a single publication. This collection of stories is not only varied from the crime thrillers that many readers have come to love, but also offers a richness in its presentation, such that there is something for everyone. A great effort by Jo Nesbø, which is sure to appeal to many fans of his gritty writing.

The Jealousy Man by Jo Nesbo, Robert Ferguson | Waterstones

A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. This collection is divided into two sections – Jealousy and Power – and as I typically find when I read collections of short stories I definitely liked some more than others. The stories are dark and they include morally grey characters, which I loved. And none of them ended the way I expected to them…they are filled with great twists that really keep you guessing the entire time as to where it is heading, no matter how long each story is.Nesbø’s 13th Harry Hole novel (after 2019’s Knife) covers familiar terrain in a too familiar way. Norwegian sleuth Hole has left the Oslo police after a tragedy and relocated, broke and Continue reading » The officer sits with head bowed. As though he’s the one confessing to murder by poison rather than me. On paper the money was hers, but it was her father who pulled the strings. The insistence on a prenup when we got married was, of course, his idea. He probably saw it all, how she’d soon grow out of her longhaired young photographer with his lofty dreams and his ‘artistic ambitions’.

The Jealousy Man - Jo Nesbo

OK. So that wasn’t exactly true. I was jealous of Henrik Bakke. At least the first time I met him. Let me explain. One day he called me at my office and asked if we could meet, he had some papers for me from Simone. I knew these must be the divorce papers, and even though it was, of course, unspeakable of her to use her new lover to deliver them I was curious to know who he was and so I agreed to a meeting at a restaurant. I presume he was just as curious about me. Edoardo Ballerini (another favorite narrator) read The Shredder. Quote: "Research projects are like films or building projects; they're never finished on time, or within budget." I say this as though I’ve just made up my mind here and now, but of course that’s not the case. For several minutes now I’ve just been waiting for the right moment. And the right moment is now. Out of the few I liked, London was bloody awesome. Earring had a lovely twist to it too. I don't have a problem with him writing short stories but I like to see more stuff like Kingdom. Dark, unsettling and delicious. But once a second body arrives on his slab I’m pretty sure the coroner is going to be able to work it out, don’t you think? That the murder weapon was right there in front of you the whole time?’Ovo je njegova prva zbirka kratkih priča, od kojih su neke doslovno kratke - tek desetak ili dvadesetak stranica, dok su druge nešto duže i opširnije, poput naslovnog Stručnjaka za ljubomoru, koji je najduža priča u zbirci. Some of the stories are long and wordy; if you're familiar with the author, you won't be surprised. I wasn't. The reason you haven’t found anything is simple. I haven’t been here, officer. At least not this past year. And the housekeeper does a thorough job with her vacuum cleaner.’ A veritable crime lover’s delight from a true master of mystery and suspense. Experience the #1 New York Timesbest-selling author as never before in this dark and thrilling short story collection that takes us on a journey of twisted minds and vengeful hearts.
