Legal [At] – King, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner, Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca, Fischer, Gilbert-Lurie and Stiffelman Again haven’t heard MOV copy so I can’t compare to that but in comparison to compressed sounding CD it sounds warmer and more dynamic. The vocal performance is something out of this world, I always love to sing along to try and hit the same notes, which is not easy, while the vocalist makes it look effortless, always leaving me impressed. The guitars and the riffs are top-notch and feel so grand, you can easily tell these are the same guys who performed RATM. It's a scary thing, replacing an over-played record with a brand new press, but doing so with Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures worked a treat for us.Chris's vocals are high and powerful as ever. Bringing the emotion and sophistication in his voice. Paring up with the remaining members of Rage is just brilliant. That sound is very prominent here, but it works on curating that funk, bass sound that Rage are known for. Don't be unnerved by Kid A's dimensions, you won't need a turntable that'll spin at 78rpm to play this double 10-inch record; whether it was made this way for aesthetic or simply due to Radiohead being willful, it's really just a 33 1/3rpm vinyl in fancy dress. Amazing energy coming from both the legendary Soundgarden vocalist and the outstanding Rage Against the Machine band. What a fantastic combination, really! Together they created something so energising and adrenaline raising that I must say - listen responsibly! If you're driving while listening, the gas pedal is pushing itself, so be careful and watch the speed. Recorded at Cello Studios, Hollywood, CA; Royaltone Studios, Burbank, CA; Studio Litho, Seattle, WA; Studio X, Seattle, WA; Akadamie Mathematique Of Philosophical Sound Research, Los Angeles, CA.

I never thought Chris Cornell was the answer for the "new Rage Against the Machine"--really, could you imagine Chris doing political rap (almost as hard to imagine... pardon the Pearl Jam ref... as him doing mainstream r&b with Timbaland)? As the head of a 70s arena nostalgia band, he earns a passing grade in his middle age, though... even if barely. It does sound fantastic, though. There's a boldness to the sound that is strangely euphoric, despite the album's often subdued phrasing, and a luscious quality to electronic and acoustic instruments alike that creates a genuinely immersive soundscape.

There are still some genuinely classic songs like “Like A Stone” and the overwhelming “Shadow on the Sun.” That being said, the performances on here from the RATM core of the group are solid, so despite its flaws this is not something I can wholeheartedly trash. There are much worse records especially from this genre in this time period. Strange, Leon Vynehall's name springing to mind when compiling this list; his inclusion, though, is about more than some half-baked homonym. Probably in the upper tier of radio-friendly post-grunge, considering most of that wasteland was a cesspit. Edit: Bumping this up to a 3, because while I still endorse my prior review the fact is that there are too many guilty bangers on here to leave this as a straight down the middle average album. It's not excellent and I don't return to it often, but this is enjoyable if you don't take the lyrics too seriously and just sing along.

Tom's guitar playing is exceptional. Tim's bass creates this blues like groove that offers further flavour and Brad's drumming builds the tension perfectly. However modern, though, the music of The Beatles was very much intended to be played on vinyl, and when you place that heavyweight 180gm LP on your table, the crispness and detail of the 2021 mix elegantly marry the bright, lush warmth of a vinyl cut. This vinyl version, while not being too dynamical, is still much (MUCH!) better than its CD counterparts: I never realised how good, powerful and warm it can sound until today. We don't mean that vegans won't like it, but rather its intimate production desires a physical medium spinning as close to you as Mitchell's voice appears in the room. The reason Music For Films makes it to this list though is precisely because we weren't totally enamoured with it before we heard Showell's half-speed version running at 45rpm; the sonic upturn in all from detail to dynamics, though admittedly often subtle, for us gave the music new dimension. As we mentioned earlier, there are those records whose sonic pallets are tailor-made for the warmer, less clinical treatment of a vinyl cut. For us, John Martyn's Grace & Danger is one such body of work.
