About this deal

When I’m not actively engaged in ritual, I keep my altar pushed against the wall facing west. During ritual, I pull it to the center of the room and face it north. Altar Cloth Once you have the core pieces to your altar (note: yours could be different from mine), it’s time to add or subtract tools for spells or the occasion. Answer: It's totally fine for your altar to be on the smaller side if you don't have much space. Each practitioner must make do with their own circumstances. Necessity breeds innovation! An altar is useful for most (if not all) practitioners of witchcraft, when casting spells, creating a Wiccan magic circle, celebrating holidays, rituals and ceremonies. The altar itself is simply a flat surface, where people can work with magic. It can be a small table, a wooden box or anything else with a flat surface. The altar should be large enough to contain all the instruments and tools needed to perform rituals.

While many practitioners closely follow established patterns for setting up the altar, others—those known as “eclectics”—will work more intuitively, using patterns that resonate with their personal experience of the deities, tools, and symbols. Some prefer highly elaborate setups, while others take a pared-down approach, with as few as four or five objects on the altar. Of course, space is a big factor here, so if you find that room is limited on your altar, allow that to be a guiding principle in designing your ideal layout, no matter what tradition you may be following. Working with what you have Question: For a Wiccan or pagan alter, is there a need to bless or invoke to the actual altar before using it?Although many people include traditional tools on the altar, you can use whatever fits your budget and needs. Add crystals, pictures, and other items that are important to you. Your altar is personal to you, so finish it off with objects and keepsakes that speak to you and bring you joy. These might be family heirlooms, pictures with friends, or seasonal items for a Pagan holiday. You might also add: Of course, you aren’t required to work with crystals if you practice Wicca. But Wicca does often involve crystal magic. You can make a crystal grid on your altar if you want to channel something specific. Witchy Altar Tip #7 Have fun!

Before we get to how to build a Wiccan altar, let’s first discuss the purpose. Understanding the purpose will help you make the right choices for your altar. For your Goddess candle, use a silver or white candle to represent her lunar energy. You can also place an image or statue of the Goddess there instead (or in addition to the candle). When you’re just starting out, a white candle in a pretty glass or silver holder works perfectly. Crystals have many uses in Wicca, and for that reason, they are a very common addition to many altars. The stones listed below are just a few of the common ones used by Wiccans. Hi Hayley! It's totally ok to practice without having all of the items. None of the items are mandatory, and your practice is what you make it! This article covers items that are traditionally included in Wiccan altars in addition to some other items that certain practitioners choose to use. Everyone's practice is unique, and your altar should include whatever you want it to. It's also important to note that not possessing a certain item should never preclude someone from practicing their craft! There's no need to be wealthy or have specific possessions to practice Wicca, witchcraft, or paganism. The athame. Most Wiccans and Pagans use an athame in ritual, so place one on your altar if you'll need it during a ceremony.Ale is not a necessary thing. Drink what you want. If your a fan of pepsi, coke, sweet tea.. Whatever. It's your choice. You find more information about Wiccan altar tools in my previous post, where I cover them all in more detail. Hey, I wanted to ask 'cause I can't do witchcraft. My parents are OK with me burning candles and reading stuff like Harry Potter but I cannot do majic myself. I found a crawlspace in my basement and I want to do stuff in there but I don't know if that would make my parents' opinions on Wicca worse. I know that I shouldn't but I need help. Can you recommend books that I can read that won't draw attention?

An altar can take many forms, and depending on your circumstances, might be a permanent structure in your home, or might be a piece of furniture that does “double duty” as a desk or table. The only real requirement is that it have a flat surface. Many Wiccans prefer a round shape, which lends itself to easier movement within the sacred circle, but square or rectangle-shaped altars are also fine. Ideally, the altar should be made of natural materials, i.e. wood, stone, or—if need be—metal. Wood is the most traditional and generally the easiest to come by. If you can find oak or willow, these are ideal materials for a wooden altar. This is absolutely not something you have to follow, however, and feel free to choose whatever direction you want for your altar, even if this is no specified direction at all. Maybe one of the elements speaks to you more than the others, or maybe you appreciate them all and choose to rotate your altar every 3 months. Decide what’s important for you and go with that. Test out different orientations and see which works best for you. Witchy Altar Tip #4 Altar Decorations

Pink: Pink represents love, femininity, attraction, emotion, and passion; it can stimulate your psychic abilities.Gold: Gold is associated with wealth; it represents power in all forms, including the Sun’s energy. If you plan to work with Candle Magic – and you probably will after Lesson 7 – you’ll need at least one candle holder. Take your time when looking for one. Make sure that it’s sturdy enough to withstand the heat of the candle and that it won’t fall over if you accidentally bump into your altar.I encourage you to work with biodegradable, eco-friendly tools. Materials such as ceramics, glass and metal are ideal. My loves, whatever you do on this path, make it your own! I’m here to give you suggestions and tips but never feel like you have to follow anything said here 100%. Being a witch is all about claiming your own power, and if you have ideas different to mine, embrace them!
