Killian.” His name slipped from between my teeth. He wasn’t listening, and if there was one thing I hated, it was a man convinced that I don’t know my own mind. “When will you learn? I always say what I mean.” Will they have as much respect for us when night falls?” he countered. The commander had not been shy about expressing his opinion about the Blood King and his invasion of Cordova. I understood his hatred.

Let me describe this book poorly: woman gets new boyfriend, old boyfriend is jealous, woman is jealous of new boyfriend’s female acquaintance because he goes to her for his fix, but woman doesn’t want to help him, she just gets mad at the other woman. Oh and turns out new boyfriend was interested in woman because she reminds him of his ex. Oh and there’s vampires and witches and magic and stuff. From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book two in her Flesh and Fire series… I think that you have to really be very mindful about how you use sex in your plot. It’s part of the character arc of this person. And Isolde went from just kind of exploring and having fun and whatever to being with one person. And she maybe teases him at first but she learns through all of this what kind of relationship she actually wants to have.” Isolde has mixed reactions as someone who’s supposed to be the enemy eventually turns out to be a helper, and also an aphrodisiac who’s making her feel lustful, warm, and wet in unholy places. I’d survived an encounter with a vampire who had tasted my blood, and the worst part about it was that he’d been right. She has a Master's degree in Library Science and Information Studies and a Bachelors in English Writing. She is obsessed with Greek Mythology, murder mysteries, and the afterlife.

Romance makes billions of dollars!” St. Clair laughs. “It’s like you have all the science here, all the numbers that you should be dominating the markets with romance and you don’t do it because people think it’s ‘not literary’ or whatever.” For ten years, I’ve lived in a gilded cage inside King Midas’s golden castle. But one night changed everything. Again, I imagine this book is absolutely going to hit its mark amongst the audience it’s intended for, and I *was* absolutely entertained. But personally, the woman vs. woman subplots were frustrating and degraded the women in this book. He knew there was no need in fighting because they would be demolished if they tried, so he sought a more peaceful approach to save his people – to surrender. Some of his citizens saw this as cowardice and dishonorable, while the majority preferred their lives to be spared. Isolde de Lara, warrior and the princess of Lara, disliked this idea her father had come up with – she hated the thought of surrendering to the blood king, but just like everyone else, there was nothing she could really do about the situation.ADRIAN WAS SURPRISINGLY not as alpha as I thought he would be, which actually made me like him more. I was worried he was going to be a douche-lord like Knox from Flames of Chaos, but he was very respectful but still macho enough to be sexy Don’t,” my father had snapped—the word was so harsh and sudden, I jumped. After a quiet moment and a breath, he added, “You are too important, Issi.” I have to say, after reading ATOD from the 3rd person perspective and this book from the 1st person, I think SSC does much better writing in 1st person. While this is not something that will matter to some people, it made a big difference to me because this book is such an improvement from ATOD. Some of the sentences in this book really wowed me. Like "I met him beneath jasmine and kissed him under stars, and we made love in the dark, and that love ended in fire and damned the world" just made me speechless because I think this might be the best sentence in the whole book for me. IT SEEMED TOO OBVIOUS that Adrian and Isolde had some weird and historical connection. It felt like it was supposed to be this mysterious reveal but to me all the foreshadowing just had me rolling my eyes I started to step around him, and Killian reached for my hand. I wrenched free and punched him in the stomach. He groaned and fell to his knees as I turned on my heels.

Scarlett St. Clair. Photo: Sourcebooks Scarlett St. Clair introduces the first chapter of King of Battle and Blood Romance can be literary and a romance plot can be literary. [People say] that romance doesn’t have a plot, right? No! Romance has a plot,” she says. “A plot is just actions. Romance just has a different set of actions. It’s the actions you take falling in love.” I am so excited to introduce King of Battle and Blood! It is an enemies-to-lovers romance set in a dark fantasy world filled with all kinds of blood-craving monsters.King of Battle Blood is a medieval vampire fantasy romance book written by Scarlett St Clair; about the sacrifices made by the king and princess of Lara to save their people from the terror of the blood king and his army. If you love this book, I am happy for you! I wish Scarlett all success with this release and future books. I think I’ll definitely be continuing the series (I even have a couple exclusive editions coming that I am excited for!), it just missed its mark for me in too many areas.

Romance novels are often predictable, which often makes them enjoyable and fun to read. This book made me cringe, it made me guffaw, and I slammed it closed multiple times in protest. I would never burn a book, but I might have considered it for a hot second. I’m proud of myself for finishing it. In an attempt to get away from all the frustration, Isolde ran from commander Killian but met a strange on her way to the castle. As a seasoned fighter, she defeated the filthy creature of course, suffering just a few scratches that were healed by a strange vampire she encountered in the woods – the same people she considered her enemies. From bestselling indie author Laura Thalassa comes the newly revised and edited first book in her smash-hit dark fantasy romance between a siren and the "bargainer" she owes countless favors to. After spying on the vampires, Isolde had returned to the castle in an attempt to get away from commander Killian, but met a strange on her way – one she’d successfully killed, suffering just a scratch on her end. Then he bent, and his tongue swept across the wound on my chest. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t move, I couldn’t speak. The worst part was that this felt good. It felt possessive and sinful, and I found myself no longer trying to stab him, but clinging to him as he worked. There's no way Isolde's father would try to kill her. He legit was going to go to war so she didn't have to marry Adrian. Also, wouldn’t he trust his daughter and talk with her about why she hasn’t tried killing Adrian? Isolde was supposed to be queen of Lara, so I feel like her father would respect her enough to have a conversation about all this. Not just make a rash decision to kill her bc it would lead to Adrian’s death as well. A former slave fighting for justice. A reclusive warrior who no longer believes it exists. And a dark magic that will entangle their fates. King of Battle and Blood by Scarlett St. Clair is about a young, cranky, and defiant woman named Isolde who lives in a castle where she is pampered by her maid and her father. Isolde’s father has recently surrendered the Kingdom to the Blood King to avoid a devastating war. I READ THIS FOR the smut and I definitely got some smut 😉 If anything, there was a bit too much smut because it kind of got repetitive after a while Why is Adrian being a one-dimensional character? All I know about him is that he is blonde hair, blue eye super handsome vampire that has a past and that is about it. Hell, I don’t even know the description of the other characters besides the five or six of the side characters that only appear once or twice, and that is it. Four are Lara’s father’s post guards and Adrian’s blood human that his wife, Lara, didn’t like.
