About this deal

Dog Soldiers was released on DVD in the U.S. in November 2002 by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. [26]

A Blu-ray edition (including a single-disc edition and a double-disc edition with a DVD copy) was released by First Look Studios on 5 May 2009, [27] available only in the U.S. and Canada. There’s also a new interview with Neil Marshall, featurettes on production design and Werewolf Cinema, a new video essay, deleted scenes, gag reel, trailers and a photo gallery. Leslie Felperin (16 October 2020). "Dog Soldiers review – gory larks with furry werewolves". The Guardian. EXTRAS: Ported over from previous releases are a director’s audio commentary and another featuring the film’s producers, whilst an additional new commentary comes from Professor of Film Alison Peirse. The disc presents a native 3840 x 2160p resolution image, in the widescreen 1.85:1 aspect ratio, using 10-bit video depth, High Dynamic Range (HDR), a Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) and is encoded using the HEVC (H.265) codec for Dolby Vision and HDR10.Dialogue is clean and clear, sounds natural and give any directionality it needs. Bass is reasonable, there are a few LF effects, and the sub is used to fill out thumps, bumps and gunshots, and there is a wonderful deep resonance when the squaddies first encounter the house – it’s rich, powerful and unnerving; deep enough to rattle the floorboards! Under interrogation, Ryan reveals that he was sent on a government mission to capture a live werewolf for study and exploitation as a weapon; Cooper's squad was supposed to be the bait, and considered expendable. An enraged Wells and Cooper attempt to kill Ryan, but he transforms into a werewolf and escapes into the forest. It is revealed that the Uath family, the owners of the house, are the werewolves.

Jamie Russell of the BBC gave it 4 out of 5 and called it "A rip-roaring comedy action fest that'll put hairs on your chest." [22] The WCG and HDR (as Dolby Vision) gives life and vibrancy to the colours, while maintaining the natural hues and integrity of the original intent. Flesh tones are of the pale variety, greens are lush - that of vegetation and in the army camouflage - see the richness of the yellow of the Land Rover, the cool of the blue skies and how gorgeously gross the reds of the blood and guts are, while the oranges of the explosions are hot! Sean Pertwee reflects on Dog Soldiers' legacy, on-set injuries and the sequels that never were". Radio Times. 13 October 2020 . Retrieved 4 August 2023. What a debut feature Neil Marshall had with Dog Soldiers in 2002. Taking the fairly standard ‘group trapped’ movie trope, and pitting squaddies against werewolves, he crafted a tight, scary, gory and funny film that he’s yet to better. Oh, The Descent might be a better horror film, indeed one of the best horror films of all time, but, in terms of all round satisfaction, Dog Soldiers is the one to beat. Shame his filmic outings have been all downhill ever since. Hunter, Rob (22 June 2015). "32 Things We Learned From Neil Marshall's Dog Soldiers Commentary". Film School Rejects . Retrieved 24 February 2020.Shapiro, Marc (19 January 2004). "Producers talk 'Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat' ". Fangoria. Archived from the original on 13 February 2004. Many will know Neil Marshall for The Descent, but for fans of the werewolf genre, he made his mark on them with Dog Soldiers. While An American Werewolf in London may be the very best of werewolf movies (in my opinion of course) Dog Soldiers came out of nowhere to become an instant classic.
