About this deal

Roughly 1.5 pounds, it’s lighter than military surplus ponchos, while still delivering everything you’d expect from a poncho. The reduced weight is one of the main reasons why I like it. Is the poncho worth leaving the down blanket behind? I personally say hell yeah, but then again I grew up wearing serapes around South Texas, so this poncho reminded me a bit of childhood. But if you’re habitually cold or just want to feel a warm embrace, the Honcho Poncho could be just what you’re looking for whether you’re wild camping in winter or just need something to throw on when it gets a bit chilly in the evening!

Of course, it's a weak point, they are cold spots even when the bag is closed (because no insulation over them) but the possibility to get your arms out while the bag is closed is very interesting. We don’t particularly love the word “disposable”, especially when it comes to a plastic product, but one can’t deny the one-use nature of ponchos for many people. Without knowing what infrared images look like, it’s tough to do…but think about things from all 4 wavebands (vis, SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR) and how they look. Most drones out there have at least a vis (or vis-swir combo) and one of MWIR or LWIR…some have all 4. Camouflage is all about who is looking for you. We wear orange into the woods so other hunters can see us, but deer only see gray. It is made of the multi-spectral fabric “STEALTH CLOAK”which is an advanced material that protects against Visual, NWIR, SWIR, MWIR, LWIR &Radar Sensors & Weapon systems such as anti-tank missiles (ATMs, ATGMs, ATWs) heat seeking missiles, UAVs, UCAVs, DRONES, loitering ammunition, Thermal Imaging Sights (TIS), FLIRS. The same super-cozy NanoLoft technology that Rumpl puts in its puffy blankets has been stuffed into this waterproof poncho. This ultra-insulating down-alternative insulation is perfect for foul weather as it continues to insulate even when it gets wet (unlike down) and dries fast. Being that the poncho is coated in DWR, though, you won’t have to worry about any leaks.

Survival Mag

A military/gov drone? Military drones are going to be undetectable to most people. They can fly high enough to conceal their sound. They can stay aloft for 24 hrs on a single tank of fuel. They have multiple cameras that can be used in concert to detect you. These include regular cameras, IR cameras, and cameras that can see through air obstructions such as smoke and clouds. They can also carry ordinance to use on targets. The lighter weight towel ponchos are perfect for getting dry and changed after any watersport, while the waterproof change robes are great for the cooler months as they will also protect you from the weather and keep you super warm.

The wearer would then be comfortable and invisible to Infra red and Thermal Imaging equipment as well as visually invisible with the gillie suit on. When we look at thermal masking we have to take into account the capabilities of modern USG thermal imaging systems. The .gov (and DoD) standard is the ability to discern either +/- 1 degree in temperature difference between objects and the ambient environment at any given range. So either one degree cooler or hotter and the shape of the image shows up in modern TIS. Most LE agencies use the same or similar equipment that possesses the same capabilities. In practice it’s hard to hide from either TIS or FLIR unless you do it right. I really enjoy it when we add our knowledge and ideas in the comments. It’s part of what makes MSB such a great resource and so enjoyable to visit! As far as avoiding Infrared detection, there are allot of factors to take into consideration when determining what method(s) to use to conceal your IR signature… Use Nikwax ®Down Proof ™to restore your down's hydrophobic properties. Specially formulated to renew the Nikwax Hydrophobic Down treatment, it can also be used to provide improved water-resistance to any down bag. Follow directions on the bottle. We've got a fantastic selection of poncho towels and waterproof changing robes in a wide selection of colours and sizes. Heated throws are not recommended for use for children under 5 years but we reached out to The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and they gave the following tips on how to use a heated throw safely: Climashield -eristeinen versio ei omien kokemusteni perusteella sovellu hätämajoitteeksi sadekeleillä. Ulkokuori kyllä pitää sateen, mutta viitan alta (majoittujasta ja maasta) tuleva kosteus kertyy viitan sisälle, jolloin viitan paino lisääntyy merkittävästi. Rinkkaa on muuten sitten tosi mukava kantaa kun sinne pakkaa märän ja painavan lämpöviitan. There is no one wavelength or one way. They all have balances tho. LWIR is great for seeing detail in large temperature swings (is people next to a forest fire) but the resolution of the microbolometer that is most often used is poor. You can tell if people are next to the fire, but you are never going to tell who it is. MWIR is much better at detail because of the shorter wavelength (also research nyquist frequency) but is easily blinded with something hot (ie a flare next to your face makes it very hard to see features). SWIR is great at seeing through moderate fog and smoke, but starts to get blinded by smoke that is lit up (since SWIR is almost all reflected light..just like visible).

For survival and emergency preparedness, the poncho is a clear winner. How to deal with the flapping in the wind Sometimes with synthetic materials or larger coats, there’s an anticipated weight that comes with the warmth offered. Therm-a-rest does offer this poncho with synthetic or down fills, though this one specifically is down. I must say from running around camp for a few days, you almost forget you’re wearing it at times. At 1 lb 3 oz, it almost feels like you’re wearing a cloud that offers just the right amount of warmth without feeling like you’re in an oven. When movement stops your own heat production slows down. In cold temperatures, it´s extremely important to add warm clothing fast when activity levels drop from high to low. For this purpose the Thermal Cloak can be worn like a coat or cloak: The Gatewood Cape by Six Moons Design is a very unique product. It’s a rain poncho that doubles as a tarp tent. (You read that right!) It weighs just 10 ounces, has a hood for your head, and a large 360-degree coverage when worn as a poncho. Hand wash or machine wash in a large capacity, front loading washing machine, using 3 oz. of Nikwax® Down Wash™. Select cold water and a gentle/delicate cycle with two rinses. We recommend an additional spin cycle as well to extract as much water as possible before drying. A helicopter? Helicopters are loud, and thus will likely be used more in a pursuit scenario where the presence of a target is known, rather than in a general surveillance mode. The highest level of sleeping baggy pleasure is achieved when the Thermal Cloak is used in conjunction with an actual sleeping bag. In this configuration, you can keep your clothes and gear (especially any electronics or batteries) safe and warm within the Thermal Cloak whilst you yourself sleep comfortably inside the sleeping bag. The joy of getting into non-frozen-solid clothing on a cold winter morning is something you just have to experience first hand to truly appreciate.
