About this deal

I live by VR because my best shots are hand-held in fading light. VR is a huge benefit when shooting hand-held at slow shutter speeds from about 1/4 to 1/30 of a second. If you like to shoot interiors and night without a tripod as I do, this lens is for you unless you already have the Nikon 18-200mm VR. August 2016. Nikon D3300, Nikon 18-55mm AF-P at 38mm, f/4.8 at 1/60 at Auto ISO 1,100, Perfectly Clear. bigger. Obviously, it is made cheaply so you cannot expect the quality to be great, but for beginners, this is more than enough. You will not be getting high-quality photos with this, but it will provide a way for you to get used to using a DSLR. August 2016. Nikon D3300, Nikon 18-55mm AF-P at 18mm, f/3.5 hand-held at 1/4 at Auto ISO 720, Perfectly Clear. bigger or full-resolution file to explore on your computer (mobile devices rarely display high resolution files properly).

Just because it is inexpensive and does not take high-resolution images does not mean it is useless. Maximize the use of natural lighting. It is everythinggggg in photography, especially if you’re a newbie. You can use soft shade, direct sunlight, and shadow to illuminate the subject’s excellent features. In the range of 18-55mm, VR doesn't do anything unless you take the camera off its green AUTO setting or turn off the flash to get longer shutter speeds in dim light. If you always use a tripod you don't need VR. In these cases, forget this VR lens and get the otherwise identical non-VR 18-55mm to save money. The lens will default to VR on when attached to models released prior to the D3400: D3300, D5500, D5300, D5200, D7200, D7100. These cameras will also require a firmware upgrade to access the menu to turn off the VR.

The very best protective filter is the Hoya multicoated HD3 55mm UV which uses hardened glass and repels dirt and fingerprints, and is also multicoated.

Nonetheless, when shopping for a DSLR or mirrorless, you will find some models that come bundled with high-quality lenses that can produce professional quality images. They are technically kit lenses as well. It has only the very slightest green-magenta fringing in the corners at the wide end on a D200 or other older camera. It will be invisible in normal use and is better than the 18-200mm VR. August 2016. Nikon D3300, Auto Distortion Correction OFF, Nikon 18-55mm AF-P at 55mm, wide-open at f/5.6 at 1/640 at Auto ISO 100. bigger or camera-original file to explore on your computer (mobile devices rarely display high resolution files properly). If you don't use in-camera correction, it has strong barrel distortion at 18mm, moderate distortion at 24mm and none from 35 to 55mm. Manual focus is a kludge. You have to jam the A — M switch to M, and then try to twiddle the front of the lens. If manual focus is important to you, spend three times as much on the 18-200mm VR.

No switches; VR and AF/MF now controlled in camera menus (but you can just grab the ring any time for instant manual-focus override). Truth be told, the quality of the material used to make these types of lenses is of lower quality. Quality ones are expensive, and for a camera to come with them at no extra cost means their quality is compromised. For less money, the B+W 55mm 010 is an excellent filter, as are the multicoated version and the basic multicoated Hoya filters, but the Hoya HD3 is the toughest and the best. In other words, the 18mm focal length is still not wide enough, and you may need an even smaller focal length for a wide-angle view and to fit in more into the view field. The 18mm focal length allows the user to change the focal length and aperture frequently and fast. It allows you to capture numerous photos in different styles without switching them. Most Nikon DSLRs correct this lens' distortion automatically. The D3300 with which it ships completely corrects the distortion if you have Automatic Distortion Correction ON.

A fair price is one of the things that make the 18-55mm glass good for beginner photographers. While you can get one after purchasing a new camera, you can also get one separately at an affordable price. When used on DX cameras, it sees the same angle of view as a 28~85mm lens sees when used on a 35mm or FX full-frame camera. It is traditionally a starter 18-55mm focal length that is priced inexpensively with the sole purpose of maintaining the overall cost of the camera.

Consider becoming a professional photographer by purchasing a separate high-quality ones to maintain your shot standards.
