As a result, the Blood Angels use an alternative scheme for denoting a unit’s battlefield role, while the all-red armor of the Blood Angels also means that they do not paint their sergeants’ helmets red. The color of a Blood Angels’ helmet is used to denote role and rank: While Chaos Space Marines are limited to a single Chaos Lord per Detachment, the World Eaters aren’t subject to such petty jealousy. They can field as many beast-bound Lords as their HQ slots allow, meaning you can muster the complete contents of two Combat Patrols – all without needing to spend any Command points on the new Heroic Support Stratagem . The wings were then highlighted with Administratum Grey (leave some of the previous layer showing). But the overall performance of these paints is excellent. The amount of work, experience, and passion that has gone into each of these dropper bottles is plain to see in each stroke of paint. There’s a huge amount here to be excited about, and the range is only going to grow as Duncan and Trans Atlantis Games enjoy more and more successes.

Add a little Warboss Green to the Waaagh Flesh and layer up, leaving the darker color in the recesses The Mephiston series, written by Darius Hinks, starts with Mephiston: Blood of Sanguinius, followed by Mephiston: Revenant Crusade and Mephiston: City of Light– this takes place in the Dark Imperium period, with Mephiston battling in the Imperium Nihilus. Cover all but the deepest recesses in Rhinox Hide / Vallejo Burnt Umber (whichever you have to hand). Again, I do this with an airbrush for time’s sake but you can do this with a brush quite easily.

Add a little Cadian Fleshtone to the The Fang and layer up, leaving the darker color in the recesses Now, there is one big difference that you’ll notice now the minis are close up: the edge highlights. Because the Citadel Layer paints are much heavier than the Two Thin Coats Highlight paints, the edge highlight on the Citadel model is much more pigmented. http://www.ttfxmedia.com/vallejo/cgi-bin/_modelis_info.asp?p1=ing&p2=modelcolor&p3=1#modelcolorinfo In the long, long ago when painting Custodes I used Citadel’s Retributor Armor. However, when using that paint for this Allarus Custodian I again had the same problems as I had previously. Retributor Armor doesn’t quite cover as well as it should, and it sort of tears as you apply it. Because of this, I switched over to Scale75’s Dwarven Gold. If you have access to this paint, it’s fantastic. It goes on smooth and coats like a dream. It’s good enough that you might even be able to skip the previous Charred Brown step.

I airbrush Citadel Mephiston Red as a highlight. You can do this with a brush but this is why you buy an airbrush because it’s so much simpler with one. When I took on Custodes I was happy that the person who I painted them for wanted something other than the classic gold. As much as I love a really nice rich gold colour, I find it pretty overwhelming on the Custodes models. Instead, I went for a striking red-dominated scheme, with darker bronze metallics. At this point I could start painting by hand, generally working from the inside out. These are the recipes I used for the various different areas. Unless otherwise noted, my washes cover the entire basecoat area, and highlights are all edges. Brass Armor

In our How to Paint Everything series, we take a look at different armies of the Warhammer universe, examine their history and heraldry, and look at several different methods for painting them. With the release of Engine War we’re looking at the forces of the Chaos Daemons, and this instalment is dedicated to the Lord of Skulls himself, Khorne. Who are the Daemons of Khorne? The wings were further highlighted with Ulthuan Grey (leave some of the previous highlight showing at the base of each feather). Using pure white, edge highlight the blade, and the inner cleft of the blade, as well as the power nodes Drybrush the darker metal areas with Ironbreaker, and highlight the lighter areas with Scale 75 Heavy Metal.
