About this deal

I have such a love/hate relationship to Mariana at this point, call us enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies if you will. Dear Aaron, My name is Ruby Santos, and I’m your new pairing through the Help a Soldier Foundation. Can someone, who’s read the book, tell me if I overlooked something (because honestly, I started skimming a little towards the end) but have Aaron and Ruby ever talked about safe sex and whether Ruby was on the pill? Did I miss that conversation? Because if not, I found it kind of a questionable move on Aaron’s part to just plunge his dingdong in there - bare - without even bringing up the topic of protection. I mean, the guy did have sex with quite a few people, they’ve known each other irl for like a week, and considering how innocent Ruby was and the fact that she even told him that her mom never had the birds and bees talk with her, it kinda irked me that he would just do that. And is pulling out an approved method of contraception now? Cause the way Zapata wrote that (slightly clinically) sex scene, made it seem like it was the most normal thing in the world. Even in the raunchiest romance novels I’ve read, safe sex was always a topic. And for the record, pulling out just doesn’t cut it and it certainly doesn’t protect you from STDs. Luna’s definitely not my favorite main character from MZ mostly because I think she’s a bit of a pushover and a tad too nice and optimistic for me to be able to relate to her (since I’m generally a pretty grumpy and pessimistic person)… but it didn’t bother me as much this time around as it did the first time I read it — so that’s something. Having to admit it out loud hurts - but Luna and the Lie didn't work for me as much as I hoped it would. Let's be honest here, I hoped for a five star read. Nothing else would have satisfied me. Maybe I need to stop putting poor Mariana on this insanely high pedestal, but who am I kidding - I love MZ!!! I'm also not giving up on her just because Luna wasn't THE book for me. So... I don't know. What do you rate it? Certainly 5 stars for the 2nd half and I give it like 2.5-3 for the first half. So..... LMAO! Can we just average it out to like FIVE STARS because.. She is known as the queen of slow-burn (which is my favorite type of romance), but she is also known for doormat-ish and pathetic heroines. Sometimes she doesn't go overboard so I don't really mind, but sometimes I just can't stand it.

So .. here's the thing, I'm not going to do a huge review. I'm just going to jot down a few random thoughts on this book because I don't know what to rate it. I wouldn't consider this a huge spoiler review, however, I don't like knowing ANYTHING about a book before I go into it, and if this were me reading this review, I would say LIGHT SPOILER ALERT in paragraph 2! OK? Okay! I am so affected by the characters in all of her stories but Luna and Rip, well they really tore at my heart. I truly admire the author for writing something different. She stepped outside the molt and delivered a unique concept and plot. It just didn’t work for me as well as I hoped it would. Aaron’s eyebrows climbed up his forehead almost comically. “Like a little Chihuahua,” he suggested, the spoon going into his mouth with a sly grin.the fact that this was such an issue for that last 20% too. like oh my goodness i could not deal with it. this made the book drag on way longer than needed. There’s nothing much about the plot. Sorry, but I was waiting for some twist but there wasn’t anything coming. Just the same thing going on until around 70%. Ezáltal magának a történetnek is.

Can I also add that not only have I read this book, I listened to it on audiobook ( Callie Dalton and Teddy Hamilton are the BEST narrators ) I’ve done the same for a few of her books and Callie Dalton never fails. Firstly, this was my first Mariana Zapata read and I. FREAKING. LOVED. THESE. CHARACTERS. I really want to give this book five stars because the second half of this novel ran away with my heart. I couldn't stop reading. I just could not stop reading this story and I ate up Mariana's writing. It was breathtaking. I felt everything these characters were feeling. My heart raced, my chest ached, my eyes bled tears, I was just in it. I loved the pacing of this book. Sure it was a slow burn but in that second half it just felt like an organic unfolding of the sweetest romance. And was wow. Luna (h), 27, works in custom car shop doing auto body paint, detailing and bodywork. Lucas Ripley (H), nearly 41, is her boss. Had a really fun time re-reading this one… it just has so many good things going for it — a really strong grumpy x sunshine, a super protective and jealous hero, a one bed trope, a nightmare scene, and one of my all time favorite groveling moments. Furcsa volt oldalakon keresztül a levelezésüket olvasni, de hamar belerázódtam és onnantól már gördülékenyebben ment.Oh man... Rip? I love this dude. Sure, he was such an a-hole in the beginning and sure I low-key hated how he treated the heroine at first BUT we slowly see his character develop and see all these subtle hints on his true feelings towards the h. Ezek után biztos, hogy beszerzem az írónő másik könyvét is, ez pedig egyenesen repül a kedvencek közé. Thea: There was part in the novel where Thea, Luna’s sister, was hiding a secret from Luna. I’m not going to say much, but the way Zapata solved it was through A LETTER. Not an actual conversation. No two-way communication. It was like Zapata was rushing to ties all the ends and decided to throw some crappy letter for the Thea issue. Yeah...no. That’s a cop-out at its finest. I will say that this book doesn't reach the pinnacles of Winnipeg for me - but alas, I doubt anything ever will - but it was still an enjoyable read. Again, it might be too slow for some people (even some Zapata fans) as it's probably the slowest one by her I've ever read, but I still dug it. This was so much better than I expected it to be. I really wasn’t sure how I would vibe with the format of this book… but I loved it! So freakin much!

Since we’re in this for the long haul, I’ll ask you a few questions so we can start getting to know each other. Hope that works for you. Their relationship builds up so terribly slow – a slow-burn in its truest form. I was about 80% in and I was wondering if I would start growing a beard right then and there it’ll be faster than those two managing a kiss. I could not get enough of Rip and Luna throughout this book; their troubled pasts and the slow creation of their relationship. Luna was a bright character who expressed her emotions and rarely held a grudge, but Rip was rough and impossible to understand. The way you watch his character evolve and see the effort he puts into bettering himself, the more you fall in love with him. NO CONNECTION, no chemistry, no sparks, nothing redeemable about the most boring characters I've ever read in my life.Actually, I think that when I was 10, I would still think it was excruciating. There were so many elements that went in to making this book excruciating but to save you the long read, I'll mention only my top three.
