If you suspect pests, isolate your plant to prevent the spread of disease to your other houseplants. Important: The opening measurement of the decorative pot is the size of the access hole for inserting the plant's grow pot as well as an indication of the minimum liner size needed. It is not the same as the external diameter of the pot which is the overall outer size of the pot. Please note all measurements are approximate and can vary slightly due to the handmade nature of our pots.

Calathea leaf curling indicates underwatering, which results in a protective mechanism used by the plant to prevent water loss.Sensitive to salt like all Calatheas, fertilize no more than monthly during the growing season using a half-strength, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer. In addition, flush the soil periodically to remove any fertilizer salt buildup.

You will receive a carefully selected, quality evaluated 6” diameter plant. All Exotic Forest plants are rooted and thriving. Keep your Calathea zebrina healthy by growing it in moist, fertile soil with good drainage and where indoor temperatures range between 65°F to 80°F and place away from drafty and cold locations.Help! My leaves are curling from the sides and have brown on tips and sides. The soil is moist and it is getting enough water and light. No root rot smell. Maybe I over firtilized?Any ideas?? #Calathea

As it was mentioned earlier, browning leaf edges on Calatheas are often a sign of low humidity. See the last paragraph for more on that. Happiest in high humidity environments, preferably higher than 60%. Mist regularly to boost relative humidity and avoid browned leaf tips & edges. If that is not an option, you can soften the afternoon sun by adjusting the position of your plant a bit farther from the window and draping a sheer curtain to filter the light. Calatheas are known for their beautiful leaves, so it’s a bummer if the patterns start to disappear. Overwatering. Yep, there it is again: almost all Calathea symptoms can have something to do with excess moisture.

How to Care for Your Calathea ‘Surprise Star’:

Some species and calathea varieties sport distinct patterns that garner them names that perfectly describe them. This one is no different. Placez votre plante dans votre évier ou baignoire sans la soucoupe. Remplissez votre bassin avec environ 3-4″ d’eau. Assurez-vous que l’eau n’est pas chaude ! Only prune away damaged, diseased, or rotting leaves. Trim at the stem for new foliage to emerge there. If your plant is kept near space heaters or any other heating source, it might cause the leaves’ tips to brown.

Too much light. If your Calathea is getting too much light, the leaves will appear faded, translucent even. The chances of this happening indoors are not that high, but if it has, just move the plant a few feet away from the window. Most sources recommend a peat-based potting soil mixed with about 1/3 perlite to improve drainage. This works fine for the plant, but unfortunately peat isn’t the most sustainable potting material. You could try using coco coir instead, as it should also hold water quite well. Potting Overwatering, root rot, and various diseases can also cause drooping. The best course of action is to treat the underlying cause. [5] Calathea Beauty Star Leaves Falling Off Root rot is a typical problem with specimens sitting in overly wet or saturated soil for an extended period. Fertilizing your calathea can help promote new growth and even blooms depending on the variety. A complete liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength is a good option. When re-potting, you can also amend the soil with seaweed or fish emulsion, or worm castings. Calathea will benefit from being fertilized during the growing season. These indoor plants do not need to be fertilized during the colder months when the plant is dormant. Pet Friend or FoeHydroculture plants are measured the same way as soil plants, however the grow pots are sized by diameter plus their standardised heights, which allows a water meter to be fitted. For example: an 18/19 grow pot has an 18cm diameter at the rim and is 19cm tall. Better still, you can bring your houseplants closer. This will help create a humid microclimate for your calathea beauty star. Ensure there’s proper aeration and all of them are healthy and pest/disease-free.
