About this deal

A narrator is the person telling the story. In literature, the voice is not the narrator himself, but rather every narrator has a voice. Mood What is meant by ‘voice’ in poetry? Personally I don’t think it’s easy to distinguish between ‘voice’ and ‘style’. Both are abstract terms that are concerned with the overall effect of a piece of writing rather than any specific technique, so both are the sum of all the other parts of the writing craft. In both fiction and poetry, ‘voice’ and ‘style’ are created from word choice, tone, use of punctuation and grammar, rhythm, choice of subject matter, choice of point of view, use of imagery, and so on. In poetry, specific poetic techniques also contribute to voice, including line length, line breaks, use of stanzas, rhyme and meter.

The form of a poem refers to the overall structure of the poem. When looking at the form of a poem, we take into account: Editors emphasise the importance of getting the voice right, so given this importance perhaps it’s controversial of me to suggest that worrying about finding your voice is misplaced. If Liz Berry deliberately set out to write a Liz Berry-sounding poem, I suspect it might not be very good. But she doesn’t have to – by focusing on the other aspects of her craft, her voice is present. As long as you’re not imitating another writer, yours will be present too – just as every time you speak, you speak with your own voice. And to Juliet is given the key-word "lightning" which occurs againin the play, and is significant of the sudden and disastrous power So far I have been speaking, for the sake of simplicity, of the c:three voices as if they were mutually exclusive: as if the poet, in CILippi, or in the role of a known character of fiction, like Caliban,he has taken possession of that character. And the difference is

In the same way, a writer may have one voice, but they can vary it by writing in different styles. Voice is made from both style but something else too – what I’m going to describe as the writer’s ‘take’ on the world. Some writers are wry, some sincere; others are passionate, others cooler. Here are a couple of examples. I am very sensitive soul who finds more solace in art than in humans. My journey ventures to social change-making, loving economics and writing. My relationship with words is a symbiotic one. I am currently compiling my book of short stories." I haven’t joined in as I’ve been isolating. I’m so moved and impressed by them and I feel like I’m in the middle of a seismic shift and worldwide revolution. He makes it clear, stanza by stanza, through the first part of the poem, that there was truly no difference between two diverging paths in a wood, yet he did take one of them, leaving the other forever unexplored. He imagines finally that in the far future of old age (he was 42 years old when the poem was published) he will be telling this story of how No. Poetry can’t change anything. It can have agency in terms of raising people’s consciousness. What it can do is raise awareness.

Tough question. What makes my (or anyone’s) children different from others? The love you have for them. The effort you put into raising them. The hard work you pour into them. So it is with our VOP events. I don’t separate myself as a poet from being an educator, and in the classroom, I can see how a poem can change a person’s life. To see a quiet student read one and own that space: poetry is about that ripple effect, that breakthrough. In other words, the poetic voice in a poem refers to particular elements used by the speaker. Various changes in the poetic tone of a piece make it clear to the reader that the poem belongs to a particular person. Poets often develop or find their poetic voices by using particular elements in their poems . when the dramatic monologue is not pu t into the mouth of somecharacter already known to the reader from history or from

Overview

I’ve always been fascinated by language. It started with my mum teaching me English in Zambia by labelling all the different things in the house with the English name – I guess that gave me a playful relationship to the language. There’s a sense in which writing poetry is just that tendency to play with language taken to an extreme, and that tendency has been with me since the start. I don’t think I ever didn’t write poetry, in that sense. An example of a type of poem that follows a strict structure is the 'Villanelle'. This type of poem consists of nineteen lines, which is separated into: Robert Frost wrote in 1939 that, “the sound is the gold in the ore”. “All that can be done with words is soon told,” he wrote, reminding his readers that without what he called meaning (and what I am calling voice) there can be no variety, no nuance, no endlessness to poetry.
