About this deal

The panel is only a 50Hz one, so there’s no support for 4K/120Hz gaming. Nor can any of the UE43BU8000’s three HDMI ports handle VRR, leaving ALLM as the only cutting-edge gaming feature on offer. Edge definition is clean, and with native 4K images picture-noise is little more than a rumour. Motion is handled with real assurance, too. If you want an affordable TV to make the most of your 4K content, the Samsung AU7100 should be high on your shortlist.

In picture terms, there’s really nothing not to like at the price, but it has to be said that the sound is decidedly average, even by the fairly low standards of modern flatscreen TVs. As with the vast majority of sets, we recommend that you also budget for at least a soundbar if you’re going to buy the LG C2. Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output Unfortunately, the sort of content the system typically promotes tends to be of niche interest, to say the least, and navigating through the menus and between the Smart interface and the TV set-up menus can be frustratingly unintuitive. The good news is that aside from not supporting Freeview Play, the UE43BU8000’s smart system is outstandingly rich in apps and video streaming content. All the most popular streaming services are present and correct (including the individual catch-up apps of the UK terrestrial TV services typically found within the Freeview Play app), and all deliver 4K and high dynamic range (HDR) where a service provider carries them. Connections run to three HDMIs and one USB port. The only cutting edge gaming graphics feature the HDMIs support, though, is Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM), which allows the TV to switch into and out of its Game mode depending on the sort of content an ALLM-capable device is outputting. There’s no 120Hz or Variable Refresh Rate support. There is not any indication of the oddly compressed-looking, primary, detailed gentle look the 43AU7100 can take with mid-dark tones. Actually, the UE43BU8000’s extra constant shade enhancement signifies that photographs typically look extra three-dimensional and refined, particularly in comparatively darkish scenes.

There’s no local dimming either, but that’s probably a sensible decision with an edge-lit TV as, typically, local dimming with edge LEDs results in distracting stripes of light that run across the image. The construct high quality can also be spectacular. The thin chassis is not accompanied by a monstrous quantity of bending or flexing, and there is simply sufficient weight to sign the usage of a lot heavier-duty supplies than the light-weight plastics that sometimes dominate at this value stage. If you’re after a bigger or smaller 8K TV, the QN900B is also available in 65-inch and 85-inch sizes. We haven’t tested those specific versions but Samsung’s 8K TVs tend to scale up and down very consistently, so we expect them to perform just as well as the 75-inch model tested. But while the A95K isn't brighter than the brightest traditional OLED TV, it does deliver better bright highlights with subtle shades and colors that its non-QD-OLED rivals miss.Having said that, there’s every reason you might be tempted to buy a Samsung 8K TV. That’s because Samsung has done a better job than its rivals of making its 8K TVs excellent performers with the content you already watch, and pricing them so aggressively that they don’t cost vastly more than their 4K equivalents. There are limits to the amount of ‘designing’ that can be done to a TV at the best of times, and ‘the best of times’ most certainly does not include a mainstream range of aggressively priced televisions designed to appeal to as many folk as possible. So the BU8500 is an unremarkable looker. Troy on Blu-ray features an ample amount of detail found on characters’ faces and period armour, as well as a decent level of clarity for a 65-inch screen. The azure blues of the sky translate well and contrast with the sun-dappled yellow of the beach as the Greeks storm it. It’s a credible upscaling performance, with no distracting artefacts, and the BU8000’s sense of colour is best realised with SDR content. But, again, the image does appear a touch soft. This TV is incredibly slimline, and is designed in the AirSlim method used by the company. This makes it super slim and easy to fit into any corner of the home. It's a TV designed to be watched and to draw the eye. Its thin profile even has a built in cable management system which will reduce clutter and make sure your eyes stay on the screen at all times, so you don't miss a thing. Helps to Make Life Easier In terms of image upscaling, the processor is still very efficient. From SD content and live content up to 720p, 1080p and 4K, the TV did not show any obvious artifacts from the upscaling process. But keep in mind that the end result is always very dependent on the quality of the original content.
