About this deal

So which pregnancy books are the best? From books for first-time mums, to guides about positive birthing, hypnobirthing, home births, water births and the fourth trimester, there’s a huge variety on the market to choose from. We’ve reviewed some of the best pregnancy books around and also provide a brief guide about what to look for when shopping for them. If you’re feeling apprehensive about it all, joining the hypnobirthing club could be the way to make you feel more confident, and possibly even excited, about giving birth. Whether you choose to embark on a hypnobirthing journey or not, this book provides a lot of advice for you and your birth partner to help each other feel relaxed and supported during the stages of labour. This is also one of those books that you’ll want to gift to all your pregnant friends after reading it. Overall, I would highly recommend this book as a really nice gift to anyone going through pregnancy as it's very approachable. It's the only pregnancy book I read, as the last thing I wanted to do was slog through "What to Expect" or any of those more in-depth books, as a Google search could generally answer all my questions. Then again, I'm past my due date and I've never once called my midwife so maybe I'm just too casual about the whole thing. "No blood, no problem" is my pregnancy motto. :) Key concept : Positive birthing, hypnobirthing, information to help mothers understand the process of pregnancy and how to make their own choices. READ NEXT: The best parenting books to buy The best pregnancy books you can buy in 2023 1. The Modern Midwife’s Guide to Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond by Marie Louise: The best pregnancy book for first-time mums

Key concept : A guide to support any woman, whether in the first or third trimester, helping to bring the science of pregnancy to real life. Louise covers complex subjects such as the nervous system during pregnancy, the journey a baby takes when passing through the birth canal and anatomical facts on breastfeeding.

The chapters at the end of the book are very thorough ones about birth itself including pain relief options and detailed descriptions (and images!) of the different stages of birth. There’s also information about different types of assisted deliveries, inductions, multiple births and Cesarean sections. Then there’s information about what happens straight after your baby is born and the first 12 hours after. It’s so important to know as much as possible about labour and giving birth. It can really help you make informed decisions and I also believe that it will help prepare you mentally for the pain and the whole process.

This in-depth pregnancy guide will walk you through every day of your pregnancy from the moment of conception to the first two weeks of your newborn's life. Preparing to become a mother, or a mum-of-more, is never easy. In this helpful book, Mathur hones in on her own personal experiences and covers definitions of anxiety, examples of intrusive thoughts, and preparing for the whirlwind of emotions that comes with parenting, as well as how to deal with them. The author, a psychotherapist and a mother herself, immediately draws you in with her knowledge in this relatable must-read. Its size. There are a ludicrous number of pictures that are mostly unnecessary (I don't need a daily foetus development photo - you can imagine how little variance there is from photo to photo at that frequency) with the end result that the book is so large that it's too heavy to lift to read for any duration, but even in the first trimester was way too uncomfortable to have it resting against my abdomen whilst reading, so I had to prop it awkwardly on cushions balanced in my lap any time I wanted to read it. What to Expect When You’re Expecting, by Heidi Murkoff: The best pregnancy book for month-by-month coverage This week-by-week pregnancy book will show you how to keep healthy during pregnancy, what foods to avoid, how to exercise safely, and how to navigate common concerns and prepare for complications.
