Copies of Frith’s photographs proved immensely popular with the general public. Thanks to the rapid expansion of the Victorian railway system, Britons were now travelling in greater numbers than ever before, fuelling a huge demand for photographic souvenirs. But many other streets in the city centre once had very different names, and here we've listed the fascinating - and sometimes gruesome - reasons why they changed.
