About this deal

The island of Cyprus was first inhabited in 9000 BC, with the arrival of farming societies who built round houses with floors of terrazzo. Cities were first built during the Bronze Age and the inhabitants had their own Eteocypriot language until around the 4th century BC. [10] The island was part of the Hittite Empire as part of the Ugarit Kingdom [11] during the late Bronze Age until the arrival of two waves of Greek settlement. It is a large producer of products in this region, surpassing countries in its vicinity. Transportation in Cyprus

Transfer from Greece to Cyprus is carried out by international flights only to the airports of Southern Cyprus in the following directions: Questions about whether the island belongs to Greece often arise because of the consonance of Cyprus with Greek Crete, no less popular tourist mecca of the Mediterranean. For understanding, Cyprus is a separate island state, and Crete is one of the islands of the Hellenic Republic, although the islands are in the same climatic zone and are culturally similar. At both resorts, Greek is the official language, which further confuses travelers. However, Cypriot Greek differs significantly due to local dialects. The TRNC was declared an independent republic on November 15, 1983, after Cypriot Greeks voted against the Annan Plan for Cyprus, which would have created a united island. The cuisine of Cyprus reflects the country’s history and inhabitants. A mix of Greek, Turkish, and Middle Eastern influences characterize the food of Cyprus. Several of the traditional dishes on the island are also traditional dishes in other countries. These plans were presented to the conference on 13 August by the Turkish Foreign Minister, Turan Güneş. Clerides wanted thirty-six to forty-eight hours to consider the plans, but Güneş demanded an immediate response. This was regarded as unreasonable by the Greeks, the British, and the Americans, who were in close consultation. Nevertheless, the next day, the Turkish forces extended their control to some 36 per cent of the island, afraid that delay would turn international opinion strongly against them. In 1960, according to the Cypriot constitution, Greece acted as the guarantor of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus. Perhaps this was the most important event in the history of the island in recent centuries. Unfortunately, the consequences of such a decision led to an armed invasion by Turkish troops in 1974. Turkey has historically claimed the territory of Cyprus since the time of its stay under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Cyprus is divided into six districts, which are further divided into municipalities and communities. Each district has a capital city of the same name. The largest and most populous of these districts, and the home of the country’s capital, is Nicosia.

The population of Cyprus was estimated at 1,295,102 in 2022 by the CIA World Factbook. The country has seen steady growth in its population since 1980, though government censuses conducted after 1974 have not included the Turkish population in Northern Cyprus. Ethnicity The island is geographically split into two parts. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is recognized only by Turkey and the Republic of Cyprus (Greek-speaking and internationally recognized). Today the island is divided into two countries - the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Greece continues to maintain warm diplomatic and economic relations with South Cyprus, and participates in every possible way in resolving political issues. Since 2004, the Republic of Cyprus, like Greece, has been a member of the European Union. The political system of Cyprus has changed slightly in response to tensions between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. The country’s constitution of 1960 provided a framework to protect the interests of Turkish Cypriots, but tensions in the country have rendered these obsolete. Makarios fled the country with British help. Faced with Greek control of the island, Turkey demanded that Greece dismiss Sampson, withdraw its armed forces, and respect Cyprus' independence; Greece refused. From the United States, envoy Joseph Sisco could not persuade Greece to accept Ecevit's Cyprus settlement which included Turkish-Cypriot control of a coastal region in the north and negotiations for a federal solution. The Soviet Union did not support enosis as it would strengthen NATO and weaken the left in Cyprus.
