About this deal

How often should I clean my bike? Regular cleaning ensures that your material lasts longer and that you can enjoy your cycling for longer. How often you need to clean depends on the weather conditions in which you ride. Do you cycle through all kinds of weather, or do you only go out when the sun is shining? It all affects the degree of wear and tear and some people will have to clean their bikes more often than others. Use the schedule below as a guide: Once set up, we found 105 shifting to be precise and consistent across the whole cassette. It's crisp and light whether you're using the short cage or the medium cage rear derailleur. The cage of a rear derailleur is designed for a certain range of gears. For example, Shimano’s outgoing Dura-Ace R9100-SS rear derailleur is designed for use up to an 11-30 cassette. We quote official recommended retail prices here, of course, but we've also included typical online prices. The weights listed below are Shimano’s official figures. It's also worth mentioning the dedicated cyclo-cross chainsets which have reduced chainring sizes (Shimano's FC-CX50 offers 46, 36 chainrings).

Now that 12-speed road bike groupsets exist, cassettes can have a larger range and the jumps between each gear can be relatively small. Campagnolo 12-speed rear derailleurs can accept up to an 11-32. The only exception is Campagnolo Chorus, which can take up to an 11-34. It's not really worth considering changing your gearing until you understand what it is you want to achieve. A lower gear by changing the cassette or chainset/chainrings might come at the expense of bigger gaps between gears or a lot of repeated gears, or lots of cross-chaining to achieve the right ratios. The cassette with 11/34 ratio is the same width as an 11-speed mountain bike cassette and a race 10-speed cassette. To mount this cassette on an 11-speed body, a 1,85 mm spacer is included. The other Shimano 105 R7000 cassettes are wider and fit on an 11-speed body without a spacer.Well, the smallest cog is a 10-tooth, and the largest cog is 52-tooth, which is 520 per cent larger than the 10-tooth cog, thus giving a 520 per cent range. Like rear derailleurs, front derailleurs have a maximum capacity. Here it relates to the difference in size between the large chainring and the small chainring. So, say you are using 50/34T chainrings: the difference is 16 teeth. The very latest versions of Shimano's Ultegra and 105 GS rear derailleurs will actually handle an 11-40 cassette, which opens up a range of possibilities for gravel bikes, touring bikes, and any other situation where you're not in a hurry.

As with 105 Di2 R7150, Shimano has dropped a short-cage rear derailleur option, offering just a single, medium-length derailleur cage instead. I splashed out on nicer wheels (Shimano RS21) which seem to be wearing at an astonishing rate - next bike is disk based. In response to your question, basically the spec charts show that the materials used in Dura-Ace, Ultegra and 105 vary depending on the product. Broadly speaking all products use anodized or painted aluminium but more CFRP is used at Dura-Ace level and more steel is used at 105. For example see here:

The capacity of a Shimano 105 front derailleur, for example, is 16T so it’ll cover all of the common double chainset combinations. Interested in the comments on the relative durability of ultegra and 105. I had thought the perceived wisdom was usually that 105 was the more durable (as part of the trade-off for increased weight), but comments here going the other way. PS MTB triple chainsets have the wrong chainline (typically 50mm) for a road bike (typically needing 43.5mm).
