About this deal

Overall, my recommendation is one of the Vanquish line of metal detectors. The Minelab Vanquish 440 is a great beginner metal detector with enough features to make an intermediate detectorist happy but is simple enough for a newbie to operate. And it has a great price! Because the Vanquish 440 has a few more features than the 340, if it falls within your budget, I recommend this model. The company designed a new shaft for its new metal detectors product line, as it was done for Minelab Go-Find. However, unlike that model, this one has a sectional shaft and it’s not that small sized.

You should walk slowly and smoothly with Vanquish 440, just like with all Minelab metal detectors. Hold the search coil 1 inch above the ground, and each wave of the coil should cover 1/3 of the previous one. A nice bonus is that you don’t have to take extremely small steps or bend over (it is quite annoying). There are a few detectors on the market that claim to be multi-frequency, but they actually only switch between single frequencies, operating on just one at a time. Probably the most exciting feature of the Vanquish 440, which puts it way ahead of others in its price range (and above), is the inclusion ofMinelab's groundbreaking Multi-IQ technologyseenon Minelab'sEquinox series machines, theworld's best-selling metal detectors of 2018/2019,and also the first detectors to offer true simultaneous detection of multiple frequencies. All the Vanquish Series detectors operate on three frequencies, low, medium, and high simultaneously, giving you the best of all worlds whatever you are searching for. The Minelab Vanquish 340 is the lowest priced of the Vanquish line. It also has fewer features than the 440. The 340 has the same Multi-IQ technology but has only 5 segments of discrimination, while the 440 has 12. Both come with the same V10 search coil and have the same weight of 2.6 pounds. The 340 only has 3 search modes: Coin, Jewelry, and All Metal. Relic and Custom modes are not available on this model. The Simplex+ is a single frequency VLF metal detector operating at 12 kHz. This model has frequency shift which allows it to compensate for electromagnetic interference. This does not mean the model has multiple frequencies, but rather than it can slightly shift frequencies to compensate for interference.Another important thing to keep in mind is that – and Minelab haven’t even tries to conceal this fact! – the main purpose of this new series is to eventually bury the Garrett Ace metal detectors, the main favourite and one of the most popular series in the beginner segment on the market since the time of dinosaurs – since 2005, to be more precise. Installation will take approximately one minute. Once the upgrade is complete, VANQUISH will restart and the MUU will prompt you to disconnect the detector and QUIT the application. Let me also mention that Vanquish 440 is the best when you need to detect small-sized targets, including small shots. Also, it detects small coins at quite sufficient depth (like Equinox).

It is quite logical that Jewelry mode will differ and have higher operating frequencies, while Relics mode will have lower ones. However, the company doesn’t specify the exact values of operating frequencies. So, you go metal detecting with one device, but it seems that it has five different operating frequencies simultaneously. This way, target detection precision, and differentiation are guaranteed.Vanquish 440, the “middle brother” of the series, is more advanced in terms of features. It has four search modes – Coins, Jewelry, Relics, and Custom mode where you can choose specific settings, save them, and discriminate certain metal types. The discrimination scale is bigger, as well, which means more control over target spotting. If that is the case, I would highly recommend the Equinox 800 as it can operate on 5 single frequencies, while the 600 can only operate on 3. For me personally, and for anyone else with budget constraints, the Vanquish 440 is a fantastic option. It has more features than the 340 and is nestled between the lowest and highest models of the series. This makes it a good choice for a beginning, or even an intermediate, detectorist. Vanquish 440 has four search modes: coins, relics, jewelry, and custom. As for me, I use Relics mode more often. I’d advise using All metal at the beginning, but you should pay attention to how each target sounds, including iron. This way, you’ll learn to hear what kind of metal is under the coil, and then you can switch to other settings and feel more confident when using them. Each search mode is fully optimized for best performance in finding the specific treasures. This model also features Custom mode, which allows you to save your favorite settings (i.e., discrimination, sensitivity, volume, etc.). The Vanquish 440 works in all terrains, including mountains, deserts, rivers, beaches, fields, parks, and yards.
