Ralph sat on a fallen trunk, his left side to the sun. On his right were most of the choir; on his left the larger boys who had not known each other before the evacuation; before him small children squatted in the grass. The 1991 feature film Let Him Have It, starring Christopher Eccleston as Bentley and Paul Reynolds as Craig, relates the story, as do the songs "Derek Bentley" by Karl Dallas (in which the lyrics imply that Bentley was guilty but sympathise with him), " Let Him Dangle" by Elvis Costello, "Let Him Have It" by The Bureau, and "Bentley and Craig" by Ralph McTell, whose mother was a friend of the Bentley family, also covered by June Tabor (on Aleyn, TSCD490, 1997). I extend my heartfelt gratitude to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with a digital review copy of this thrilling book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Alfie, battling his own grief, is struggling to parent the girls alone. In spite of the challenges, Alfie feels like overall, they're doing okay. At least as well as could be expected. Bentley’s lawyers argued that his below-average intelligence should be considered, but diminished responsibility due to mental deficiency would not become a part of English law for another five years. I read this book whilst trying to process my own grief and found it quite helpful. It was such a raw and dark portrayal of grief. The name of the loved one I lost also happened to be the name of one of the characters, which was strangely cathartic whilst making my heart ache. Even though I devoured this book, I still feel like I don’t fully understand it. I almost feel it needs further digesting, although I may never get the full answers. I actually like this aspect to it, it’s a very thought provoking read. This section needs additional citations for verification. Retrieved 28 September 2020.You couldn’t have a beastie, a snake-thing, on an island this size,” Ralph explained kindly. “You only get them in big countries, like Africa, or India.” Alfie recently lost his wife, Pippa, and raising twin daughters, Sylvie and Cassia. His daughters are found standing at the foot of his bed in the middle of the night reporting a man is in their room. When the evidence is not there, he discounts it as psychological and missing their mom. He begins to have nightmares also and is afraid his dark secrets are haunting him. When he ask Pippa's twin sister Julia, a psychiatrist to come and observe the girls speaking to an imaginary friend, setting the table for him and speaking of what he is going to do them he needs some clarity of a dangerous presence. There’s pigs,” he said. “There’s food; and bathing water in that little stream along there-and everything. Didn’t anyone find anything else?” Let Him Have It’ is a 1991 British drama based on true events from the life of Derek Bentley. It has been adapted from William Bentley’s book ‘ My Son’s Execution’. Set in the Britain of 1953, characterised by poverty and struggle, it focuses on the misadventures of two young working-class boys, Derek Bentley and Chris Craig, which ultimately leads to the execution of Bentley and imprisonment of Craig. I have chosen to review this movie as I feel this movie encapsulates the shortcomings of our outdated judicial system quite accurately, like the usage of death sentence as a punishment. The movie asks critical questions that we as individuals should supposedly be asking of the third pillar of our democracy, in which we place utmost trust. A grieving father left alone to raise his 6 year old twins is struggling to cope. Then one night he finds the girls standing at the foot of his bed:

A group of uniformed police officers arrived and were sent onto the roof. The first to reach the roof was Police Constable Sidney Miles, who was immediately killed by a shot to the head. After exhausting his ammunition and being cornered, Craig jumped 30 feet (10 metres) from the roof onto a greenhouse, fracturing his spine and left wrist, and had to remain in hospital.

The older boys first noticed the child when he resisted. There was a group of little boys urging him forward and he did not want to go. He was a shrimp of a boy, about six years old, and one side of his face was blotted out by a mulberry-colored birthmark. He stood now, warped out of the perpendicular by the fierce light of publicity, and he bored into the coarse grass with one toe. He was muttering and about to cry.
