About this deal

The chocolate egg is made from dark chocolate, which is really rich in cocoa and leaves the comforting taste of sweet cocoa powder in your mouth. It’s the kind of flavour you get with a mug of really good dark hot chocolate. You can make the biscuit base chocolate themed for this Easter chocolate orange cheesecake by using 25g cocoa powder in the base. I prefer doing this compared to using a chocolate biscuit as I find the melted butter melted the chocolate and creates a more mushy base! In the past, vegan white chocolate has always slightly missed the mark in terms of flavour and can often be too sweet. However, I was pleasantly surprised with MooFree’s lemon white chocolate – the subtle taste of lemon balances the sweetness perfectly without being too tart for younger mouths. Love Cocoa has sprinkled flakes of Maldon sea salt throughout which add a delightful crunchy element and really make the chocolate flavour pop. A true celebration of cocoa, this is dark chocolate at its very best.

The chocolate has a fantastic snap, a gorgeous gloss to the shell, and notes of vanilla in the tasting.

The chocolate itself is made using the brand’s stunning Nutmilk chocolate which uses finely milled hazelnuts instead of milk to give it a silky smooth texture. Hammy Hamster is made using dairy-free milk chocolate and has a subtle taste of orange which was delicious. I did find this one to be slightly too sweet, but I can guarantee children with a sweet tooth will demolish this cute chocolate hamster in moments. Both Hammy and Mikey are studded with popping candy which adds another layer of fun to these chocolate treats. To begin with I wondered if they were hiding inside the hen, but they’re actually incorporated into the chocolate shell to give a really interesting texture. I used to love a Malteser bunny or reindeer, and this bunny is a great vegan dupe for that. Its cute rabbit shape makes it perfect for children, while the cookie dough filling is decadent enough to be enjoyable for grownups too.

The creamy chocolate egg is generously studded with pieces of honeycomb throughout, and the chocolate itself is very sweet. I loved the hint of sea salt which added extra pops of sweetness throughout and made it even more moreish. What: Gianduja, for those who don’t know, is a delicious, smooth hazelnut chocolate combo that originates in Northern Italy - think Nutella and you’re on the right lines. This egg throws in crunchy whole hazelnuts for texture alongside smooth gianduja chocolate - perfect for Nutella nuts in the family. What: Happi’s oat milk chocolate is one of the better vegan and free-from options we’ve come across, and they do multiple flavours including salted caramel and chocolate orange. This classic plain milk chocolate option is excellent too, though - so good that you might never return to the real deal. The chocolate itself is perfectly tempered with a great snap, and the flavour is sublime. Made with 70% cacao Peruvian dark chocolate, it’s incredibly rich and fruity with a bitterness that allows the cocoa flavour to be the star of the show. It’s an incredibly smooth milk chocolate that melts beautifully in your mouth. The first hit you get is definitely coconut, which gives way to leave a lingering taste of cacao. This is not the usual chocolate that’s reserved for kids. It’s really, really good.
