About this deal

Some open-face helmets have a drop-down sunshield that helps protect the eyes, but wind will typically still whip up under these at speed. Really, you’ll need to buy a pair of goggles to wear with an open-face lid. You’ll find a ‘J’ on the label, indicating that it’s homologated as a ‘jet’, or open-face helmet. The three-button control on the helmet’s left side is simple and intuitive. Most of the system’s major functions are mapped to a single button press. And while the placing of the sun visor’s slider is slightly unusual (necessitated by the location of the panel for the integrated bluetooth controller) the action’s nice and smooth and, once you get used to where to find it, it works well. Comfort and Sizing (more about comfort and sizing)

In comparison to the quietest helmets overall (including full face helmets), it probably ranks around average. But that’s very quiet for an open face and a great performance by Shoei’s engineers. Ventilation (more about helmet ventilation) The other’s the DOT (US) helmet that’s also available in white too, and it comes in sizes XS-XXL and in two different shell sizes. LS2 Bob | With a drop-down sunshield and a removable peak, the retail price is good, our only small criticism being of the sunshield.Shoei J•O | Something of a benchmark in open-face lids, it has a drop-down sun shield and a great quality lining. Like every other intercom, the built-in FM radio isn’t something you should buy the device for. It’s easy to use, and if you’re not riding far it’s fine, but stray more than about 10-15 miles from where you had a good reception and things usually fall apart. Even with the RDS option turned on to retune to a stronger station, the results are disappointing.

Shell material —Polycarbonate is okay, but you’d be better served with carbon fiber (expensive) or fiberglass. All the helmets called out here (save for one) are fiberglass. In addition to and as a result of producing technically innovative products for enthusiasts, Sena has come to be the Bluetooth communication supplier of choice for the industry’s leading motorcycle and helmet OEMs. Leveraging our longstanding design and development expertise, Sena has partnered with many other manufacturers to bring Bluetooth communication to a wide variety of brands and retailers. Sena’s products are offered worldwide through its global network of distributors, retailers and OEM partners. Other than the helmet shell, you get optically correct visor and sun visor, there to reduce distortion and the sun visor to prevent dazzling on sunny days.More expensive helmets will often have more expensive materials in their construction. The cheapest have a polycarbonate outer shell, which is fine but it’s potentially more vulnerable to degradation (especially from petrol), and can’t be painted. The range quoted by Sena seems to be about right – 1 mile in perfect line-of-sight conditions, deteriorating quite a bit in urban areas as you’d expect. Phone Schuberth C5 | We loved the C5 for several months and many hundreds of miles, but the visor mechanism did grow more loose, and a problem with serious fogging (despite correct fitting of the supplied Pinlok) showed up in extremely cold and wet conditions. There are still a lot of reasons to recommend the C5 though. If you’re looking to fit a bluetooth headset to your J-Cruise II, it’s designed to work with the SCL 1 or 2 set that’s been developed by Sena and Shoei to integrate with their helmets. Here at Bennetts BikeSocial, we believe in giving you as much information as possible, and as owner experience can be really valuable, we surveyed more than 2,000 BikeSocial members to find out what they thought of the lids they ride in.
