About this deal

This is fine for short rides around the neighborhood, but if you want to go more than a few miles, I would suggest a smaller seat, a rear child bike seat, or even a bike trailer where your pedaling motion and steering ability are not limited by a large seat taking up space. This mounting plate installs easily, but if you plan on swapping the Co-Pilot between adult bikes frequently, we highly recommend getting a spare hitch for the other bike. So, with such clear disadvantages why do we still see so many being used? It Is because they have been around the longest. Plus there were so many misunderstandings about front and centre seats and how safe they were, that meant the old fashioned seats maintained a large percentage of the market up until recently. Although WeeRide don’t make rear mounted seats there are some great rear mounted models made by the likes of Polisport and Bellelli. All models of the Kangaroo have a listed age recommendation range of 8 months to 33 pounds. However, we strongly encourage you to wait to use any baby bike seat until your child is 12 months old. 12 months is also the age that is recommend by the American Academy of Pediatrics. So, how do you choose the one for you when there are so many seats out there? You need to consider the types of seat, what bike you have, safety features and more. We’ve put together 5 tips to choosing the best kids bike seat.

Front seats are perfect for Cruiser bikes where you tend to have more space between the rider and the handlebars, a good example being the Ibert Baby Bike Seat. CHOOSE A BIKE SEAT THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH DIFFERENT BIKES As above, I would recommend a front or centre mounted seat. Just for the benefits of being able to communicate with your child and for their enjoyment. CRUISER BIKE This review is based on the 2021 Kazam Kangaroo models. Older models were called the WeeRide Kangaroo, the Kazam WeeRide Kangaroo, or the WeeRide LTD Kangaroo. We will refer to the seat as a Kazam or WeeRide Kangaroo throughout this review.WeeRide produces the only truly centre mounted baby bicycle seat . A centre mounted child bicycle seat has all the benefits of the front mounted baby bike seat, but without the disadvantage of adding the child’s weight to the front of the bike. The patented bar connects to the bike’s frame under the headset and on the seat post, and this centralises the child’s weight. So you can talk to your child and point things out, and they are completely safe in their seat with your arms around them and the weight is centralised. The WeeRide improves the balance of the bike. REAR MOUNTED CHILD BIKE SEATS – SUIT AGES 1 TO 5 YEARS The WeeRide Kangaroo sits in between the saddle and the handlebars, over the bike’s top tube and pretty close to the adult rider. Most other front-mounted seats are mounted on the handlebars, farther away from the adult. Kazam Kangaroo seat position vs. Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini

The weight limits are set by EU (15kgs) and US (18kgs). However, these are based on seats that attach to the handlebars where it is clearly dangerous to have too much weight directly affecting steering. This WeeRide Safe Front Bike Seat sits centrally on the top tube of a bike, not the handlebars. This allows for greater bike control as the weight distribution is central and for a fantastic view for the little ones. The greater view allows parents to engage with their child more often, pointing out the surroundings and feel safer wrapped in their arms on each ride. However, with no foot straps on the latest Kangaroo model (2021), a child’s foot is free to come out of the foot cups. Those little feet can end up on your handlebars, which happened to us the very first time we took our tester out for a ride. Footrests are great for keeping your child’s feet away from the moving parts of a bike. Here are some things to consider: is there any chance of entrapment? Are the feet secured in place to ensure no opportunity to go near the bike’s wheels.

If you ask our toddler what he thought of his first ride in theWeeRide Kangaroo, he would throw his thumb up in the air and tell you that it was AWESOME! When it comes to riding with toddlers, what more do we really need to talk about?? Usually when we are on rides that go beyond what our toddler can handle with his balance bike, we strap him into our trusty Burley D’Lite, a comfortable bike trailer that has lasted through 3 older siblings and is still going strong. However, our adventurous little guy (who thinks he is already a big boy) sometimes gets bored inside the trailer and can resist. The footrests on the WeeRide Kangaroo areheight-adjustable and can easily be adjusted on the fly. The longest footrest position, however, is pretty short though. In fact, although almost a year apart in age, both of our testers use the footrest at the lowest position. Considering the highest position is just below the bend for the knee, the upper positions are not practical. Finance is subject to application, financial circumstances and borrowing history. Get your child to school – can the seat be easily removed once you have reached your destination? The WeeRide Safe Front Bike Seat can be removed in seconds.

WeeRide recommends the Co-Pilot be used with 4 to 9-year-olds and a max of 75 lbs. We tested it out with this motley group of kids ages 4 to 12, weighing 34 to 82 lbs. Giving the seat a freshen up with some new straps or replacing the occasional part saves the cost of buying an entirely new seat if anything does break or wear out. As we mentioned, this process of attaching or removing the seat takes time and tools and is a pain if it’s something you’ll want to do often. The downside of this system is that this single screw is the only thing that attaches the seat to the mounting bar. In addition to the screw being slightly shorter than we prefer, the knob to loosen this screw is placed at the base of the child’s seat and easily within reach.

Installing the spacer does require removing the handlebars, so be sure to know how to properly and safely reinstall the handlebars on a bike before you take them off!For WeeRide bike seats weight is never the factor that stops a child using the seat, it is height. The child will start to run out of room for their legs. But because kids have different body and leg make-ups, and bikes have different geometries, we don’t give an official height. We just generalise and say height becomes an issue around aged 4. Once the spacer is installed, simply remove the smaller, thinner plastic spacer inside the front clamp of the seat’s mounting bar (the plastic insert closest to the “FRONT” marking on the bar, marked with red arrow below). Once removed, wrap the clamp around the groved spacer, making sure the end of the bar is placed inside the spacers’ groves, and then tighten.
