I had to work out what do I want the TV show to be about, and I really wanted it to be centred and focused on the mental health of healthcare professionals. Of course, many people within the health care system are caring, loving professionals who honestly do want to help their fellow man. However, the system they're in bondage to is the same system we are in bondage to. Health care? Nay. Profiteering from our illnesses is more like it. Greed seems to run rampant throughout our healthcare system. As a matter of fact, the term "healthcare" seems to be a misnomer, for in reality it should be renamed "symptom care." That being said, I really did like this book a lot and think the future of health-care has got to move us away from traditional care by doctors and hospitals. I am convinced that the best way to stay in optimal health is to avoid doctors as much as possible. Every time you see a doctor, you risk an intervention that was not needed that will probably cause more trouble than it fixes. Doctors (and patients) have trouble doing nothing, but time fixes many medical problems. The Health Care Cost Institute launched guroo.com , which lists prices charged by hospitals, allowing people to shop for better prices. The Healthcare Bluebook ( healthcarebluebook.com ) has launched a similar effort. Emboldened by findings such as those from the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, policy efforts to control healthcare expenditures while improving outcomes are likely to emerge.

I'm Interested!

I couldn't deny that doors had been opened for me but I'd definitely put in the work once I'd walked through them. The ceaseless studying, the endless after-school classes, the timetable of extra-curricular activities that would give any Olympic athlete a nervo. It wasn’t censored. More than one channel wanted to show it, and the BBC said to me, if you work with us – who I really wanted to work with anyway because there’s a lot of similarities between the NHS and the BBC, these big, wonderful, but imperfect institutions – we will never once tell you don’t do that. And true enough, no-one never said that. But it is quite a different thing to the book, and that was quite deliberate because it’s quite a difficult book to adapt. I work cleaning on hospital wards and see doctors who are so young. Should they go later into the profession after doing different jobs? I feel they’re unapproachable because being a doctor is all they’ve done.

Speaking of Whishaw, Kay is of course a fan of the actor cast to play the fictionalised version of Adam (who the author reminds us isn’t really him).

One of my closest friends left medicine school after 3 years and it is funny how the society looked at him as if he was doing the biggest atrocity out there while everyone in the school itself were pretty sure it was the best decision -and they were all a bit envious- By removing wheat, grains, and processed junk foods, as well as Bt toxin and glyphosate residues that come via genetically modified corn and soy, you have eliminated factors that are known to disrupt bowel flora.

The author mentions that only about 20% of medical schools put their students through nutritional studies. The idea of "Undoctored" is that you will need to take your health into your own hands. Although he admits there are times that you will be most thankful for medical care for broken bones etc. Kay is known for being active on social media and remains a big supporter of the NHS and its staff. How can we better support struggling NHS staff and prevent real-life cases of suicide like Shruti’s [Mod played junior doctor Shruti Acharya in the TV version of This is Going to Hurt ]? It always surprises me when people readily say they want children. In my head, I'm screaming, "Do you NOT understand how horrible the world is and what your theoretical children would be exposed to???" all whilst maintaining a calm and carefully neutral expression.Adam Kay is at the top of his game here. Even his footnotes are funnier than most comedians' best gags. But there is darkness here, too, and he handles it so well I had to lay the book aside until my heart was ready for the rest.
