After the announcement, a three-minute audio clip uploaded on YouTube in September began to circulate online. Taken from a Scottish-based Patriotic Alternative group on the messaging app Telegram, the clip sees a woman with the username “Miss Brittania” tearfully apologise for several tweets she had written that had caused other supporters to question her identity. Three people who have met and worked with Stirling identified her to the Guardian as the woman speaking in the clip.

Though Stirling, a white woman spoke about wanting to be a good ally – Rianna says that in future, she will not take such proclamations at face value. Tabatha Stirling is the sole director of Stirling Publishing, an independent based in Scotland. On Monday, she announced that she had acquired Welcome to the Woke Trials: How #Identity Killed Progressive Politics, months after it was dropped by publisher Little, Brown over Burchill's comments about Islam. In it, she tells the group: “You've been so kind, you've welcomed me in and all I want to do is support and inspire the community.” This is a Stirling (pardon the pun) book. It takes the reader on a journey to the outwardly glamorous but in many respects bitter island of Singapore. Told from the perspective of both ma’ams and maids, it gives an honest account of the struggles and strifes from a female perspective of both employer and employee and reveals the inadequate protection provided for immigrant labourers, intermingled with cultural beliefs and expectations.
