About this deal

The Seiko timepiece collection features the iconic logo across a multitude of designs, from chunky masculine automatic watches to futuristic technological designs, slim and delicate ladies' bands to sparkling fashion pieces and much more. For a watch that guarantees accuracy for everyday use to a gorgeous yet practical occasion accessory, Seiko's attractive designs will complete your look no matter what your personal taste or style. The Seiko 5 Sport series was first released in 1963, its creation aimed at providing stylish yet affordable automatic watches to the younger generation of the 60s. 50 years later, the Seiko 5 Sport has been reborn, each model showcasing the key traits of the original models as well as new, updated features.

The Seiko brand has been synonymous with precision watch engineering for over a century, with a series of firsts including the first production quartz watch, quartz chronograph and kinetic watch. Seiko today produces a range of accurate, stylish watches for every occasion, maintaining the original reputation for excellence and reliability for men and women. In fact, the accuracy of Seiko has led to the brand being the official timekeepers for various professional sports events. Nobody denies that Seiko produces overseas, and even a Breitling SmartWatch is technically "Made in China". But that doesn't necessarily speak to the quality, as even in Asia you get what you pay for.In typical Seiko fashion the lume is also very bright. The bezel functions just fine, even though the coin edge could have been a little better. Sitting on top of the case is a Hardlex crystal. Hardlex is not as hard as sapphire crystal but has still proven to be much more durable than standard mineral glass. At this price point, we don’t expect to see sapphire crystal.

If you are looking for an affordable and well-priced automatic diver’s watch with a sporty appeal and durable construction, there are not many better alternatives than the SRPD73. The model has gotten an almost legendary status in the watch collecting world and is built to a quality that punches well above its weight. The watch keeps the dial printing at a minimum, to only include an applied Seiko logo, the new Seiko 5 logo, and the text ”Automatic”. This is my first SRPD, even though I already own an SRPE53 and an SRPG27, as well as other dive watches with NH35 movements. So I figured, I might own a Seiko dive-style watch as well. The Seiko SRPD73 comes with a 42.5mm stainless steel which is almost identical to the predecessor, with one core difference being that it has drilled lugs which was well-received news when it first came out as it makes it so much easier to remove and change straps and bracelet. I'm afraid the above statement is incorrect. They are produced in Japan, Malaysia, but also by TMI in China. More recently there are also NH35 with unmarked rotors apparently not produced by TMI, and there has been a bit of speculation where they are being made. (Note: With "unmarked" I mean movements that have no country of origin markings, but also have no "TMI" markings. The country of origin is also not present on the rotors of TMI movements I have seen.)Seiko is widely praised and appreciated for its high-quality affordable timepieces. In particular, its Seiko 5 range is extremely popular and appreciated by watch enthusiasts for their sporty appeal and durable automatic movements. The single most popular watch range from Seiko has been the SKX diver line, but in 2019, Seiko announced it would be discontinued and replaced. Seiko introduced a brand new Seiko 5 collection including 27 different styles. The design was based on the predecessor, and overall, they share a lot of similar design traits. I was a little bit surprised when i got it out of the box, as what appeared as white in photos, is actually a little off-white, some form of beige. It gives a little bit of an appearance of gilt, but not quite. The watch case is slightly larger than my SRPE, but you don't really feel it. Part of this experience being the band, which is a 22mm silicone strap. It is very comfortable and lightweight, making the overall watch very easy to wear. That is probably the only surprise: It really doesn't feel like a diver on the wrist. It has less of a presence than my SRPG27 (bracelet). The mechanism within the watch is 4R36 automatic movement which is built in house and the calibre is comprised of 24 Jewels and a 41-hour power reserve. Unlike many automatic watches, this model comes with a Seconds-Stop function which allows the wearer to completely halt the movement within the watch.

Founded in 1881, the brand's name is synonymous with quality and their timepiece collection includes a variety of fetching designs for men and women of all tastes. All in all, the Seiko 5 SRPD73 is a watch that offers great value for money. It is based on the predecessor which was already a loved and appreciated concept, and Seiko carefully revised and refined the watch to make it even better. And they succeeded, without removing the charm of the previous model. The result is a high-quality and well-finished vintage-inspired dive watch that punches well above its own weight in terms of quality and value for money.
