About this deal

Our coffee connoisseur Louise Woffindin takes this mid range coffee machine for a spin in our Sage Precision Brewer review. Find out how she got on with it below…

Setup involves testing the water's hardness (via an included paper test strip) and flushing the reservoir. Despite following the instructions to a tee, the machine didn't completely flush the water from the tank into the carafe during my setup, leaving about 20-oz of liquid behind. I looked for a possible cause behind this, and even reached out to Breville customer support – but to no avail. (Fortunately, it hasn't happened again.) This Sage coffee maker might offer unprecedented customizability and precision, but it comes at a price — an exorbitant price for a drip coffee maker. We understand that only the very best coffee machines obtain the Specialty Coffee Association certification, which is a guarantee that you’ll get a perfect cuppa. But there are other coffee machines with similar credentials. We first decided to brew a full 1.8-litre carafe. After all, when brewing a large amount of coffee, it’s often hard to get right, so we wanted to test this first. As per the manufacturer’s instructions, we used 12 level scoops with the Sage scoop, which equated to 99g. This works out at 1 coffee scoop per 150ml of coffee produced. Sage has a coffee-water ratio guide in the manual, which is handy. After putting all of the parts of the coffee machine together and turning it on for the first time, you’ll see the LCD display showing “Hard”. This is to inform you that you need to input the hardness level of the water. You need to follow these steps: Iced – This setting is great for those hot summer days where you want coffee but don’t want the heat! This makes a concentrated brew whose taste will work well over ice. You need a special adaptor for this setting, which is sold separately. It seems a little odd not to include the adaptor if the machine has this setting, though.Cleaning and maintaining your Sage Bambino Plus is key to getting top performance from this versatile machine. Follow these simple steps to properly clean and maintain your espresso maker so it brews perfect shots of espresso, cappuccinos, and lattes for many years to come. 1. Clean the outside of your machine Strong and Over Ice are similar in that each mode serves up a bolder, more concentrated cup. Speaking of Over Ice, I was pleasantly surprised with the smoothness of Breville's iced coffee. It does take extra time to prepare as it needs to cool to room temperature before serving – but it's well worth the wait.

The Breville Precision Brewer is one noisy appliance. From the moment the start button is pushed, this coffee maker makes it known it's hard at work with a steady, jarring buzz that lasts until the water tank is completely empty. It wasn't the most pleasant sound to wake up to on mornings I had used the auto start feature, but at least it was effective in getting me out of bed. Each one are specialists in their own segment of the coffee machine market so the one that you ultimately go for will depend on what your own personal preferences are and how much you are willing to pay for a home espresso machine. Firstly the bambino plus has an option for you to choose the milk temperature and essentially lets you automatically texture the milk.Unplug your machine and remove the portafilter holder, filter baskets, and any other removable parts. Place them in a clean sink or bowl filled with warm water and a few drops of liquid dish soap. Let them soak for around 10 minutes before scrubbing gently with a soft brush to remove any residual coffee grounds or oils. 2. Clean parts individually The integrated coffee grinder should be cleaned regularly so old grounds don’t build up. You can use a brush and some vacuum cleaner to clean the chute and hopper, followed by wiping down with a damp cloth. 5. Clean the drip tray Fill a container with warm water and add a few drops of white vinegar or other descaling solution as per the manufacturer’s instructions. In our opinion, it has the perfect balance between quality and value. This is the minimum if you want to properly control all of the variables that make up a true comparison to a coffee shop coffee. Breville recommends washing the plastic brew basket, mesh basket filter, and glass carafe with warm, soapy water. The outer housing itself can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. The showerhead can be detached and wiped down, if necessary. The LCD will flash 'Descale' when the machine is ridden with calcium buildup and needs to be cleaned.

We must warn you, though. It’s quite big and heavy (4.8 kg). Its body (measuring 36 x 16.8 x 39.5 cm) might not fit on every countertop, so make sure that you have enough room underneath your cupboards. Features – 5/5 Clean the cone filter basket and flat bottom basket by removing them from the brewer and rinsing with warm water or wiping down with a damp cloth. Make sure to remove any debris trapped in the filter mesh of the flat bottom basket. 5. Descale To ensure the longevity of your coffee machine and its parts, it’s recommended to clean the tray once every two weeks. This will help you keep your machine running in optimal condition and allow you to enjoy better-tasting coffee.Although I miss the immediacy of Ninja's 10-minute cold brew, I still anticipated waking up to a 10-hour cold brew with the Breville, although in the future I may elect to expand the brewing process to at least 12 hours for even smoother coffee. Nespresso take convenience to a whole new level that allows you to get a coffee without even touching any coffee! Just pop in the pod and press a button and in less than a minute you have a double espresso delivered into your cup. Zero hassle. But in our opinion, you make a further compromise in quality because the coffee has already been pre-ground before being added to the pod and coffee definitely tastes best if you grind it just before brewing.
