Steve McQueen was known as the real cool dude of Old Hollywood. His performances in action and western movies were widely acclaimed such as The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape. Although Steve McQueen had many memorable movies he earned only one Oscar nomination in his career for his performance in Sand Pebbles. McQueen was one of the most popular actors during his time and is still remembered today as one of Old Hollywood’s most captivating performers. With lead roles in teen romance Everything, Everything and the socially minded YA adaptation The Hate U Give, Stenberg parlayed her prominence into activism via online platforms. Coming out as queer on Teen Vogue's Snapchat in 2016, the actor, who stars in Damien Chazelle's Netflix series The Eddy, uses social media to spotlight the POC LGBTQ community. The beginning of the Old Hollywood era is marked by the introduction of sound films. Changing from silent films to “the talkies” was a changing point in Hollywood and with it came a rise to global cinema.In 1927, “The Jazz Singer” was the first film to use synchronized dialogue and it marked the beginning of the end for silent films. The Academy Awards also began that same year and Warner Bros. received an Honorary Award for their pioneering on “The Jazz Singer”. Make-up, hair and clothes were always perfect and stars had their own unique looks which portrayed their personalities. Bing Crosby is one of the most successful recording artists of all time and like Frank Sinatra he too made an equally successful and respected career as both a singer and an actor. From 1944-1948, Crosby was Old Hollywood’s top box-office star. Throughout his acting career Bing Crosby starred, co-starred, narrated or had a cameo appearance in a total of 104 films. His career spans for nearly five decades and he was one of the first multi-media stars in Hollywood.
