Ekofuel is a trade name of Prima Industries Limited which has been trading continuously since 2006. Ekofuel was established as a brand in 2011. All their bioethanol fuels are methanol free and therefore safer than those containing methanol such as methylated spirits for their clients alcohol camping stoves and alcohol marine stores.

All bioethanol fuels work by burning vapours (not the actual liquid) and when the temperature of ethanol falls below 15⁰C it doesn’t vaporise well, which means it becomes difficult to light. As with adding denaturants, adding scents to the fuel can affect how it burns. In our experience of testing scented fuels, it can also be difficult to find a product that smells as advertised.
EKOFUEL SAFETY
Ekofuel is also produced from sustainable sources and is eco-friendly using the by-products of other agricultural industries for the materials needed in its production. Yes. Although through simple maths, it is easy to calculate that even if the starting point of any UK denatured bioethanol fuel is 100% bioethanol, after the addition of the HMRC required denaturing agents, 3% vol IPA and 3% vol MEK, the bioethanol content would be 94%. Stating this % bioethanol on the bottle would be unhelpful, since the bioethanol fuel mixture would contain no water and would therefore run hotter than intended. It is for this reason that it is the starting mixture % bioethanol that is quoted on the Ekofuel bottle, to which is added the minimum denaturants required by UK or EU law and no water is subsequently added. The resulting product, whether its is denatured to the UK or EU recipe performs similarly and is acceptable to bioethanol fireplace manufacturers. The best place for information on which one you need is the manual that came with your appliance or burner. If during the use of the appliance, you smell a burning or smoky smell, this indicates the fuel is likely not very clean or of the correct purity. It is this smell that the “no odour” and its variants refers to.
Sometimes, particularly just before lighting the appliance or after the flames go out, some alcohol vapours are still being produced and are not being burnt. Even with very pure and no odour fuels this can result in a strong alcohol smell during these times.

EkoFuel Bioethanol is flammable and care should be taken when storing and using this fuel. A good rule of thumb for any flammable liquid is to store it in a cool dry place, out of direct sunlight.
