Arlington Court is a wonderful place to explore and appreciate the beauty of North Devon’s countryside. Braunton to Barnstaple Devonport was once the largest and richest of the Three Towns which came together to create the city of Plymouth in 1914. In fact, there was a time when naming the entire city Devonport and not Plymouth seemed plausible. A lot of heritage echoes in its street and buildings and a remarkable amount of pre-war architecture survives. Walking in Devon is an absolute joy, which is why it is such a popular destination for walking holidays, Devon's walking routestake in every glorious view, every beautiful beach, and every interesting monument and you can see a whole different side to the county which can't be found from a car or train. Start off in Braunton, a charming village that’s bustling with activity, and make your way to the Tarka Trail. This well-maintained path follows the banks of the River Taw and provides splendid views of the countryside. The walk begins in the picturesque village of Otterton, and the route winds its way along a beautiful riverside path before reaching Budleigh Salterton and the stunning Jurassic Coast.

It begins (and ends) at the centre of the interesting medieval town of Totnes, then passes along the River Dart through the Dartington Hall Estate, where there are lovely views over the middle Dart Valley. You could make a day of it and stop off at Dartington Hall or the Dartington Cider Press Centre nearby, where there are crafts, shops, and places to eat. The walk continues along lanes and through woodland, where you’ll see a mill with a working waterwheel before returning to Totnes. As you traverse the last mile of the trail, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the North Devon coastline.

There are also plenty of attractions nearby such as cafes and shops, as well as activities like fishing, kayaking, and even horse riding. With its sweeping shoreline, crystal-clear blue waters, and picturesque views, it’s easy to see why this area is so popular with visitors. The trail starts in Combe Martin and heads up onto the coastal path before descending towards Morte Point, where you can take in the spectacular views of the sweeping coastline. This five-mile path offers a unique insight into the North Devon area, taking in a variety of landscapes including beaches, cliffs, wildlife reserves, and farmlands. It’s a great way to explore the area, as you can take your time, stopping to enjoy the scenery along the way.This lovely scenic walk begins at Millennium Bridge at Torquay Harbour, passing the now-closed Living Coasts attraction and through Beacon Cove, once known as the Ladies Bathing Cove and a favourite swimming spot of Agatha Christie. There are stunning views as you follow the coastal path, passing the Imperial Hotel on the cliffside with Peaked Tor Cove behind.

Along this route, you’ll find plenty of traditional pubs and tea rooms for refreshment breaks during your walk.
