Serve up cold!! Cucumber agua fresca tastes best when served up cold with lots of ice! Keep the cucumber base refrigerated until you are ready to serve. Sweet vs. dry vermouth: Dry vermouth is more bitter and less sugary than sweet vermouth. We opted for dry vermouth in this cucumber martini, and added a bit of simple syrup for balance. Colored straws: It’s all about the presentation! We like adding these striped paper straws to glasses. We started craving soups, stews, apples, and cinnamon in the mornings and evenings, but the hot mid-day temperatures still call for ice-cold, refreshing drinks.

In addition to the tools above, you’re going to need some ingredients to make this recipe, too! Chances are, you might already have some of them in your fridge or pantry. And this margarita recipe is absolutely worth mixing up to share. It makes an amazing non-alcoholic drink to serve up for parties but it’s also great with a splash of vodka or tequila (if you want)! This year, I have been experimenting with life beyond “simple” syrup. Here’s a lovely idea, just one step up from the basic sugar + water of “simple” syrup. Add a cucumber, including the peel.

Cucumber is great in salads and sauces…but an even better use for this green veggie, in our opinion? In drinks! Here’s one that’s absolutely perfect for summer: Cucumber Lemonade! The vegetable adds a cooling, vegetal finish to any drink that’s reminiscent of spa water. Combine that with the zing of the lemon, and it’s the ideal drink for sipping on the patio for a summer barbecue. It’s easy to make: here’s how it’s done! Ingredients for cucumber lemonade Experiment with other herbs. Replace the mint with basil for more herbal notes. You can also steep your simple syrup with some dried lavender and mix it into the cucumber water. Lemonade made with this simple syrup and topped with lemon water [2 lemons and 3 cups of water processed in your blender, then strained]

Strain it with a fine mesh strainer!This removes any sediment that might float on the top of the surface of the lemonade. Cucumber— we’re going to need fresh cucumber to make the cucumber juice. I recommend using regular cucumbers (as opposed to English cucumbers) because their water content is higher, meaning you’ll get more juice.

Scrub the outside of your cucumbers really well before blending especially if you are leaving the peel intact and they have that waxy feel. You start by dicing up the cucumber – I peel mine, but this step is totally optional. Add the diced cucumbers to your blender (or juicer) along with water, lime juice, mint leaves, salt, and maple syrup. Blend it all up, then run it through a strainer to remove any seeds or fibrous bits.

Spiked lemonade: Spike it by the glass! Add ¼ cup vodka or 3 tablespoons gin to 1 cup cucumber lemonade.
