About this deal

Chasing Charlie by Kathy Carmichael is an ePublishing Works release. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Whitney Friedlander for Rotten Tomatoes: The actor who plays the new villain has a similar name to the one who played the old one. Was Rhea Perlman cast because her name sounds like Ron Perlman’s? Johnson: As the episodes in season 1 unfurl, you can feel us testing the boundaries of this format and figuring out that we can give a familiar experience each time in that great episodic way but also genuinely surprise the audience. And, to me, that’s not about clever ways of killing people or clever devices for the plot. To me, what genuinely surprises is the audience’s perspective and empathy and shifts of empathy; those, to me, are the tidal waves underneath the surface of the ocean that actually make an episode engaging. Natasha, how did filming the ninth episode — when Charlie’s been on the lam for some time and seen an awful lot of murders — effect your character continuity? Also, that’s a physical episode because Charlie is hit by a car and buried alive before she has to claw herself out to safety. Let me just say … Oh the tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive … (thanks, Sir Walter Scott)

It’s so funny the ways in which we view male and female characters. We’re making great strides, but we would never expect Humphrey Bogart when he’s playing a Philip Marlowe–style character to look like he’s on the verge of a nervous breakdown. We’re still catching up to the idea that a woman could have an inner thought life that is extreme without showing it on the outside. Something that was key to my set of goals as a teenager who was falling in love with like cinema of the ’70s was to find a way to play female characters that felt more like Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now. You know, the opening scene when he’s looking up at the fan, and I don’t know what he’s thinking until he stands up and is covered in blood and The Doors are playing, and I’m like, “Oh, shit, I guess that’s what he was thinking.” I always made it a personal goal to get to be like the boys. CHASING CHARLIE (THE TEXAS TWO--STEP SERIES) by Kathy Charmicael is a good romantic comedy based in Southern Texas. The description of the Southern Texas city life versus life on a large cattle ranch. The story is about a young successful business man Davis Murphy. Who has stepped up to take over the family title business "Murphy Title" when his dad dies. He has built the business to the point that he can hire a CEO to run the company so he can pursue his dream of running a ranch raising horses.Davis became the owner of Murphy Title after his father died eight years ago. Once Davis made a success of the business, he looked forward to doing something he had always dreamed of - becoming a cowboy like his grandfather with his own ranch. Before he could get his ranch, he found out that his mother would not agree to marry her long-time love until Davis was settled with someone. He came up with a plan to get a fake fiance to introduce to his mother so she would believe he had someone in his life and would not be alone if she married the man she loved. In fact, Charlie's crimes have taken him from New Zealand to Australia to the south of France where he took deposits for the sale of items that didn't exist. Vivian had some information but he had told her so many lies, like that he was the son of a famous New Zealand family. It was easy to verify that this was not correct. Then I did some surveillance on him and through the information he had given to a hire car company, discovered his name. "She was in her fifties and after her marriage ended, she wanted new experiences."

But we also play with that going forward in the story. That’s the other thing that kind of is fun; to mess with what the audience has an expectation of. “Oh, it’s this world. So Charlie will be working there.” And, then, to have some other way in is fun to do. Robson, who’s been in the P.I game for just shy of 15 years, and was previously part of the New Zealand Police Force, no doubt knows a swindler when she sees one, but it was when she met one of Gill’s earlier victims, Vivien, that she knew this case would be different. Most liers will have some element of the truth, so that they can, to some degree, remember their lie.” Robson said. Charlie also spends the majority of her time in middle America and working lower-income jobs. That’s not something we usually see on TV. Why was that important to show?

Sam was a flawed but believable character. She loves her job and is really good at it but her salary slips through her fingers as soon as it's earned! She faces the embarrassment of her credit cards being declined and is often bailed out by her friends and family. She is behind on her rent and contribution to the bills and flatmate Mara is understandably starting to lose patience! She is a kind person though and I couldn't understand why she was so keen to get together again with the sleazy but very handsome Charlie. In her pursuit of him, she gets herself in all kinds of embarrassing situations and she isn't listening to her friends advice. At times I wanted to shake her and at times I wanted to take her aside and say 'now look....'. Even she begins to wonder who she is and what she really wants deep down. It was during this time in Australia where he met Robson’s client Vivian and other females such as Emma* and Rachel*. All of these women share similar stories of Gill using an alias and promising them the world through false lies and hope. Reaching out to Robson to confirm his identity, Robson’s investigation would see her launch herself into a seven year investigation spanning several continents. When you combine two very strong personalities, who each think they have a life plan, add in some family dynamics, (aren't they all dysfunctional?) and try to plan a last minute wedding, you can not help but result in a humorous read.
