About this deal

The Playbar provides so many more options for playing music. If you have other Sonos speakers, you can group them wirelessly with the Playbar for a multi-room experience. But it’s the app and the ease of playing whatever music you like, all through one simple interface that really sets the Playbar in a different league when it comes to music (and radio for that matter). This soundbar includes two tweeter drivers with a diameter of 1 inch or 19mm, delivering clear and crisp high-frequency sounds. Additionally, it is equipped with two mid-range drivers with a diameter of 2 inches or 50mm, producing well-defined mid-range frequencies. Furthermore, the Canton DM 75 features four woofer drivers with a diameter of 4 inches or 100mm, delivering deep, rich bass tones to enhance the overall audio experience. I mostly use the iOS app to change settings but for some reason you can’t change the centre channel this can only be changed using the SK10Y remote. If you have th Android app it does have the centre channel setting. But when I demoed with the sub connected at richer sounds the quality for music improved, so I can imagine if I connect bk xls400 with this I will have the best of both worlds. Let me first describe the problem, then tell you about my setup and then describe my awful experience with Samsung tech support!!!

If the issue persists, you might prefer to add an external subwoofer (in which case the DM100 rolls off low frequencies at 80Hz) – it’s great that Canton gives you the option. However, with judicious tweaking most people should be perfectly happy with the Canton’s built-in subs. Once properly integrated, bass sounds fast and agile, starting and stopping on a dime. What’s more, design and build quality are superb, while the terrific remote and a smattering of new features make it a joy to use. If you own a whopping great TV and want to boost its sonic potential, there aren’t many better ways of doing it than the DM100. With its immense power, gorgeous detail and snappy dynamics, it’s the closest you’ll come to a proper home-cinema experience without buying a receiver and 5.1 speakers. There are a few minor sonic issues, but nothing that can’t be ironed out with a little tweaking.

For music, the soundbase supports Bluetooth streaming via aptX. There’s a very simple setup procedure to connect your device via Bluetooth. Bluetooth has less range than WiFi so your phone or tablet will need to be with 10-15m of the DM55. Comparison TV Sound At a metre wide, you’re getting a lot of soundbase for your money, but at 69mm it’s surprisingly slim for such a large soundbase. You don’t have to place it under your TV – it’s just as happy nestling on a shelf below if your set is wall-mounted. It’s the perfect size for my 55in TV, but it will happily support bigger – provided the weight doesn’t exceed 40kg. An Eco mode automatically shuts the unit down if a signal isn’t detected for an hour (although it’s disabled if auto power is activated). Canton DM55 – Setup & Operation Like the DM50 and DM75 before it, the DM100 is an outstanding performer. At first you might struggle to get your head round the sheer scale of the DM100’s sound, which doesn’t seem possible from such a slender unit.I'm sure monitor audio asb will be better but I don't think it will be by much. Remember if u want that extra bass u have the option to connect the sub, I can tell it transforms it even more, also it automatically sets the crossover to 80hz. In terms of performance the DM 75 is in a different league to its rivals. It’s powerful, assertive and remarkably refined – all the ingredients for a hugely entertaining listen. As TVs get thinner, the laws of physics dictate that sound quality must get worse! There’s simply no room for decent speakers. Hence the rise in popularity of sound bars and bases. The difference between them is simply that sound bars usually sit in front of the TV whereas sound bases normally sit underneath the TV. However both have options for positioning them elsewhere. So. When you turn this thing on you will see the source appear in the soundbar's display. If all is well, you will see flash up: 'D.V IN', followed swiftly by 'TV ARC'. This is great. But then you may turn your tv off or decide to watch something using a different hdmi source (like your blu ray player) and when you return you see that TV ARC will no longer display on the soundbar. After spending an hour at richer sounds demoing I have decided to buy it, I also thought about getting Yamaha ysp2500 or monitor audio asb2 but was out of my budget.

Another option not officially supported by Sonos, is to connect all your devices via their optical output to an optical switch. This can be advantageous since some TVs don’t pass through exactly what they are sent. For example they may downsample 5.1 Dolby Digital to stereo. If you only have a Sky box connected to your TV, I’d connect directly from the Sky box to the Playbar to ensure any 5.1 content is played correctly. All soundbases pretend they're ready for the task of doubling up as a plinth for your flatscreen TV, yet some tend to be quite narrow, making them inelegant – and sometimes impractical – partners for larger-sized screens. The introduction of Canton's lengthy DM100 is therefore a welcome move. Then upgraded to 5.0 with the tannoys and bought Sony 1040 had it for a month and loved it, I got my perfect set up, then came the idea to get a projector and re do the whole house, and with all these speaker wires on walls etc and av receiver it was a mess in my room. The Canton DM75 promises powerful sound thanks to four 10cm downward firing bass drivers compared to the two of the DM50. The metal meshed front grill hides two 5cm midrange drivers and two 25mm tweeters. If anything, the DM100’s bass reproduction is too powerful. During Looper’s louder moments I found it a tad overpowering, boomy even, but after trimming the bass level to around -2 or -3 it sounded far more cohesive.

A helpful automatic on/off function fires up the unit when it detects a signal on the optical or coaxial inputs and shuts down after 30 seconds if there’s no signal. Simply turn off your TV before going to bed and the soundbase will automatically follow suit.

This model also boasts several upgrades from the previous DM soundbases. One of these is a new Bluetooth select function that automatically switches to Bluetooth when it detects an audio signal. It streams via WiFi which means there is no downsampling. So it plays exactly what it’s sent, from compressed MP3 files, to uncompressed audio files like FLAC or Apple Lossless.

Canton DM75 Soundbase

A key feature for music lovers is Bluetooth 4.0 with apt-X, which allows CD-quality streaming from mobile devices. You’ll also find on-board Dolby Digital decoding and DTS TruSurround, DTS’s processing technology for soundbars and TVs. Highs are clear and sharp, but amid new competition can teeter on the edge of brightness at volume. It’s not uncomfortable, but it does add to the slight feeling of fragility when compared to the likes of the Solo 15 and Geneva Model Cinema. One notable feature of the Canton DM 75 is the inclusion of a subwoofer, providing an immersive low-frequency sound reproduction. This addition enhances the listening experience by delivering powerful and impactful bass. A helpful automatic on/off function fires up the unit when it detects a signal on the optical or coaxial inputs and shuts down after 30 seconds if there’s no signal. That means you need only turn off your TV before going to bed for the soundbase to automatically follow suit. To access the advanced sound settings, hold down the “play mode” or “sound” buttons and use the volume keys to turn them on and off. The setup menu is predictably basic on the three-digit display, but it’s better than the cryptic flashing lights used by other soundbases.
