It cannot connect to a 5ghz Wi-Fi network, or if your wifi network broadcasts 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on the same SSID you cannot connect the camera to it without playing around with your network settings to temporarily disable the 5Ghz network first. Owlet’s mission since day one has been to provide “ better care for babies in the home by empowering parents with the right information at the right time.” The image quality always appears to be a pretty low resolution. I have a strong home Wi-Fi connection, and I have never been impressed with the video quality. For these mums, malfunctioning devices got in the way of a sound sleep. The Cam’s angle cannot be adjusted in the app, but you can manually change the position of the Cam whether it’s mounted on the wall or sitting on a shelf. The wall mount option is much more involved, with a nine-step setup process that includes taking two measurements, assembling all of the cable guards, and procuring a small Phillips-head screwdriver (not included). It would make sense to go this route if you were committed to this camera and knew exactly where you wanted it to go. Pairing

The good part is you can set the sensitivity level. It even tells you the temperature of the room and if it’s ok for baby. Thanks to the built-in audio device, the Owlet Cam offers two-way talk function, which allows you to monitor your baby noises and remotely soothe your baby to sleep. The Owlet Cam uses AES 128-bit encryption and TLS connection to WIFI guarantees stream footage only to devices of your choice. The camera is also equipped with a room temperature sensor to ensure the room is suitable for your baby.

The pairing part of the setup did not go as smoothly. Following the prompts in the Owlet Dream app, I plugged the camera in, waited for the light on the front to blink red and blue, and connected to my WiFi, all without issue. (*Note that you must be connected to 2.4GHz WiFi; 5GHz is not compatible.) The Owlet measures your baby’s oxygen levels, so if your baby stops breathing, you will be alerted. This is especially important if your baby is prone to spells of sleep apnea. When should you stop using the Owlet? It’s hard to know what a camera with 1080p HD video and night vision, plus a 130-degree wide-angle lens and 4x zoom, means until you put it to the test. When I was first setting up the Cam 2, I was jazzed about the video quality. Looking down at the empty crib, every detail in the sheets appeared with impressive color and clarity, and I had high hopes for the real videos to come.
From the app, you have the ability to control which sound and motion notifications, if any, you want to receive. In addition to opting in or out of notifications — which you can do individually for cry detection, sound detection, motion detection, and room comfort — you can adjust the sensitivity level and time between notifications. You can also opt in on 30-second video recordings of each sound and motion detection, though the videos that result often come out too spotty to be useful. The cord protectors are very important for safety. That is very intuitive for setup and thinking ahead so that lose cords don’t get tied up or prevent a hazard for the baby. The Owlet Monitor Duo’s thresholds are preset and are not adjustable. Please remember it is not a medical device and intended for use to provide peace of mind to parents. The Owlet App allows you to connect to and stream your Owlet products from anywhere. You can also view the history of your child’s sleep patterns, oxygen level, and heart rate. I could get to the point of setup where you need to scan a QR code, but that was where it ends. I couldn’t go any further because my router is dual-band and uses both 2.4 and 5GHz networks. Once you get to the point where you need to scan the QR code in setup, you are supposed to hear a “chime” to move forward. This chime never becomes audible, therefore I cannot get this camera to work properly with my home wifi system.
