About this deal

Demonstrate positivity instead of focusing on the mistakes of others. Turn mistakes into learning opportunities and encourage others to adopt this approach. Mike Krzyzewski: Yes, Sister Lucinda. In fact, she’s no longer a nun. As I attained some success at Duke, and was on TV and everything, I got a letter from a lady in Michigan who said, “This is who I was, and this is who I am.” We’ve corresponded since then. She had a big influence on me. Solid. A helpful and/or enlightening book, in spite of its obvious shortcomings. For instance, it may offer decent advice in some areas while being repetitive or unremarkable in others.

From the 1983-1984 season onwards, Krzyzewski led the Duke basketball team to at least 20 victories and a streak of 11 consecutive seasons. Joy Behar Calls On Will Smith To "Get In The Ring" With Jada Pinkett Smith On 'The View': "He Sits There And Takes It" You’re revered in this field as someone who develops a relationship with the kids. How important is that to you? Chris Evans' Dog Adorably Interrupts His Interview With 'The View': "He Needs To Be The Center Of Attention"For beginners – You’ll find this to be a good primer if you’re a learner with little or no prior experience/knowledge. I need to have that bond between me and that kid. Maybe that’s intimidating at times, to the parent. I don’t want to be the kid’s father, or mother, or take the place of the parent. On the contrary, I want to be that kid’s mentor, teacher, coach, whatever name you want to give me. Before your time, Duke University was known primarily as a great center for academic study, not a place you would imagine a world-class basketball team emerging from. How has the academic environment enriched the basketball program, or vice versa?

Coach K's blueprint for success begins in the preseason by building the right team and allowing dynamic leaders to step forward. In the regular season, he stresses teamwork and finds ways to turn negative situations into something positive. His teams' postseason victories come from allowing time to refresh and renew their commitment as well as from focusing on the task at hand. His thoughts on creativity and innovation are also worth reading. He writes that if students can predict what the teacher is going to do all the time, they start memorising and stop thinking. Mike Krzyzewski: Yes, to get them moving. I didn’t like just standing and not doing anything. I needed to be doing something. That’s why sport was so good. That’s why basketball was so good, because I didn’t really need you or anyone else to play it. It would be better if we played four-on-four or five-on-five, but I could go out there alone. I wouldn’t just practice my shooting, I would play a whole game in my mind. I didn’t need anyone else, and at least I’d be doing something. How do you begin to build a great team, whether in sports, business, or life? First, recruit great individuals who are eager to be part of a team and will respond to coaching. Make everyone feel like part of the team effort, not just a robot in a group being led by one person. Refer to the team and the team’s effort using plural pronouns: “our” instead of “my,” “we” instead of “I,” and “us” instead of “me.” To create an all-inclusive atmosphere, let other people speak at meetings; don’t monopolize the session or fall in love with the sound of your own voice. Great basketball coach Bob Knight had a big influence on the life and character of Mike. “Bob had a big influence on me. From him, I learned many of the basic strategies of basketball that I apply every day during the season. He taught me that there are no magic words, that you have to succeed by working hard as a group. Success is not a matter of just wanting to win. It’s a matter of preparing to win. Which is much more important,” says Mike.

I had higher hopes for this book because of what I know of Coach K's character. I was disappointed because there was not much to separate this book from any other leadership book written by a coach. Encourage employees to be innovate and creative by providing opportunities for them to participate in planning activities or leading projects. Leading with the Heart: Coach K's Successful Strategies for Basketball, Business, and Life full book Superb. A helpful and/or enlightening book that is extremely well rounded, has many strengths and no shortcomings worth mentioning.
