Berkey Purification systems do not remove all beneficial minerals from the water. Still, they extract harmful heavy metals such as lead and mercury and sedimentary minerals such as iron oxide. Therefore, the TDS reading will not typically change much unless there are a lot of heavy metals or sedimentary minerals within the source water.

According to Wire Cutter, the internals seemed to be comprised of carbon and embedded ion exchange resin. Under normal contamination conditions, the media in a set of Berkey PF-2™ Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements has been calculated to reduce fluoride for up to 1,000 gallons. I have found in my water after filtering and when I boil the water or freeze it into ice cubes, I sometimes get little white floating things in the water. What is this? What are the Berkey filters made of and how can they last for so long time with constant usage ? Can you please explain for me as most filters on the market don,t last as long as the Berkey filters. Regarding the PF2 Fluoride filters - Can my in house water filter or other waterfilters on the market remove Fluoride without any additional Fluoride filters?
