About this deal

Writing-wise, the volume is pretty solid overall. The pacing and story structure are solid, never feeling awkward in its transitions or moving at an odd speed. The dialogue and narration are pretty much fine, with plenty of good and amusing lines throughout. The tone of the book is odd, having a rather serious undercurrent to it that never really completely disappears despite the goofy and over the top nature of the book. It can be off putting for some who might not be able to buy into the comic as much because of it, but it doesn’t particularly bother me. The setting and area for the story, this entire school, are really interesting and feel fully alive. Throughout the book (and not in just one big info-dump), we learn a lot about this school and its policies, how other students react to E-3, and even how the teachers operate. It paints a rather harsh environment and adds a bit of drama on the school side of the story (not only does the class have to worry about Koro, but also their own grades as well). All of this stuff makes for a very unique and memorable experience. The living emoticon looks so happy as he’s about to be shot to pieces. Now, with a premise like that, can this manga even work? It sounds so absurd that it might not. Surprisingly though, it can and does. So far, this holds up as a solid and enjoyable series. The first volume does a great job of setting up the initial premise of the series, establishing setting for the story, introducing Koro Sensei (that’s the name that the creature takes on), what he is like, and other various elements of the book. This volume really gives you a good idea of what to expect from the book and if this series will be up your alley or not.

I have tried to get into manga over and over again, and after listening to a teen describe this series, decided to give it a go. Update--Three volumes of this series have been banned by Vero Beach High School because they are afraid it might encourage students to kill their teachers, something it has yet to successfully do after millions of readers have read it. The ultimate point of the book is that this teacher encourages his struggling low-level classroom to believe in themselves. Assassination Classroom has an absolutely batshit premise: a talking tentacle monster with a smiley face who can move at Mach 20 destroys most of the moon and will do the same to Earth in a year unless humanity somehow stops him. Oh and the monster - called Koro Sensei after a pun on the Japanese word “koro-senai” meaning “can’t be killed” - wants nothing more than to be a high school teacher! Assassination Classroom was chosen as “Worst Graphic Novel for Kids” at ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco this year, but not for the reasons you would think. The series is rated for older teens, but the covers with their bright colors and smiling face might attract younger readers and parents who would associate with other titles that are rated for them. I’m glad that was the reason for making it a “worst” graphic novel, and not the story, which is very good. The series follows the daily life of an extremely powerful octopus-like being working as a junior high homeroom teacher, and his students dedicated to the task of assassinating him to prevent Earth from being destroyed. So after the initial premise is revealed, it’s repetition all the way through: students try to murder monster, fail, monster turns out to be a good teacher and improve students’ grades, then do it all over again until it’s over. It’s not interesting enough for me. Also I think it’s trying to be funny but it really isn’t - it’s absurd and over the top but there aren’t really any jokes here.

Assassination Classroom Vol. 1 is probably one of the most unique and just plain different mangas to have come out all year long. It brings an interesting breath of fresh air to manga with its wild premise, memorable villain, silly antics, good writing, and dynamic artwork. It’s not something can be easily recommended to everyone because of its odd tone and premise in general, but if you want to read something completely different and not like anything you read before, I can highly recommend Assassination Classroom. Extra: "Korosensei vs. Saiki Kusuo ~Showdown in Iruma~" ( 殺せんせーVS斉木楠雄~入間市最終決戦~, Koro-sensei vīesu Saiki Kusuo ~Iruma-shi Saishū Kessen~) The basic story is this: an alien tentacle monster blows up most of the moon and then comes down to Earth to become a homeroom teacher. As you do. And one of the things he ends up teaching his students is how to become good, little assassins. Because why not. Someone has to teach that, I guess. It turns out he plans to destroy the world in one year, and to give humanity a sporting chance, he's allowing the students in his class the opportunity to kill him.Blu-ray&DVD 第7巻" (in Japanese). El 0,6 que le falta para ser perfecto es un pequeño problema que tiene la trama (aviso que puede considerarse spoiler) Creo que es evidente que si muere este profesor acaba la serie, así que es evidente que no lo mataran como mínimo hasta el final de la serie.

Kill" is a fascinating word. It's often used but rarely put into action. Often, when people say they will kill another, they don't. The protagonist of the series is Nagisa, a boy who was transferred to Class 3-E seemingly after angering a teacher. It is through him that we meet the other students and learn more about their teacher “Koro Sensei.” Nagisa is quiet and likes to observe. He watches Koro Sensei and takes notes about his weaknesses. He is also the first student to realize that Koro Sensei actually cares about them. Class 3-E is known as the End Class: It is where all the “losers and rejects” from Kunugigaoka are sent. They are treated poorly by the teachers and other students and used as a reason for the regular students to work harder, so they won’t be sent there.
