About this deal

The little side story with earth tribe general Geun-fae and his wife Yuno was really cute. I feel like he's going to play a bigger part going forward? I hope so, because I really like him (and his wonderful hair haha) I don’t absolutely hate Su-won’s guts which I didn’t expect and will say its because of his expression of when Yona tells him why she went to visit her Father that night. I wouldn’t say that was an expression of regret, but I know he felt his choice a lot differently in that moment. What is a 15 year old princess to do? She has a doting father who spoils her but her mother is no longer with them and the man she has fallen in love with in her even younger days is coming for her 16th birthday party. This book starts serious for a moment and turns fun as frivolous Yona worries about her hair and mentions it to the ruler of the land who is also her father. Of course to him she is more beautiful then all of the (insert beautiful objects here) so his opinion is not unbiased. With her love interest Su-won and bodyguard/childhood friend Hak we get to see even more into the past of Yona which leads to travesty. This story does a good job of building up a certain level of cheeriness which flavors the poison wine that befalls those that are mingled in the overthrow of everything Yona thought was real until then. Volume 3: Ohhh Ik-su and Yun are so sweet! I loved the fantasy/magic side of the series come to full play with the White Dragon! There is definitely something very special about Yona, although we don't know what yet. And Hak is still amazing, protective, and loving Hak <3.

She had cute little columns on the side occasionally, talking about how grateful she was for the opportunity to write Yona and her favorite foods. There were only a few, and while I can see how this might take away from the story for some people, I adored this addition. It made me smile, and feel connected to the author in a way that’s very rare in books. You can also see her love of Japanese culture, and the ways it influenced this manga (even though it was only a little bit, considering that this is just the first volume). It made me so dang happy!!! Akatsuki no Yona OAD Ship With 19th Manga Volume in September". Anime News Network. May 24, 2015 . Retrieved September 18, 2020. Volume 1: What a great start to this series, I'm totally hooked! This manga has romance, betrayal, family secrets, fantasy and HAK. Oh Hak <3 I absolutely love him. As for Su-Won, I really don't know what to make of him yet. He's definitely supposed to be the villain, and I certainly don't like him right now after killing Yona's father and the king (!) and then threatening to kill her but I feel like there is something more to him than meets the eye. I've only just recently finished the anime (covers 8 volumes of the whole series) and was upset to find it was unlikely for there to be a continuation, only to find out there was a manga with tons of more content which improved my mood significantly. I'm so happy I can find out what happens next after the end of the anime and volume 8. The first episode and volume may not seem out-of-this-world but the more you read/watch, the more the characters develop along with the story and interesting and complex things get.

Is It Good?

Yona of the Dawn Gets New 2-Part OVA Adapting Manga's Zeno Arc". Anime News Network. March 17, 2016 . Retrieved September 18, 2020. I really like the strong female feel to the series - Yona remains a small, petite woman physically dwarfed by the men around her, but (after the major turmoil that gets the story going) doesn't feel any less worthy or powerful. She does not become an instant magical badass going toe to toe with giants, but continues to work hard to become as strong and smart of a fighter as she's physically capable of being. Since she ends up surrounded by supernaturally strong fighters, she's never going to match them and that's okay. Think of Star Wars - Leia's never going to physically match Chewie, Han, Luke or Lando for strength, but her will and passion drive the group. Strong doesn't have to be physical, and Yona's willingness to just keep going for the sake of her friends and her kingdom becomes epic. Viz Media Adds Kuroko's Basketball, Haikyu!!, Yona of the Dawn Manga". Anime News Network. October 9, 2015 . Retrieved September 18, 2020.

Yona of the Dawn: Under the Same Moon (novel)] (in Japanese). Hakusensha . Retrieved April 17, 2016. The story follows Yona, a princess of the fictional kingdom of Kohka. She is forced to go on the run with her friend and bodyguard Son Hak when her childhood friend Su-won murders her father and takes the throne. The coolest element of this series is Yona herself. She’s introduced as a somewhat spoiled but good hearted girl who lost her mother. Then she loses her father and loses all emotion. She’s been through a lot and the narrative feels like it could be going in the direction of retribution for her in reclaiming the kingdom. Anyone else think this sounds like Daenerys?

It was rather humorous? Look, I’m not very experienced in the manga world so I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially from a fantasy. But the personalities of the characters just totally bounced off of one another! The drama had me LOL-ing the entire way through this story! Volume 9: Oh Sinha, I loved the moments between him and Yona in this. He's had such a tough life but he's found Yona now <3 I don’t think I’ve been as nervous to write a review on Goodreads as I am right now…*nervous laughter* Yona of the Dawn 21 Limited Edition with original anime DVD] (in Japanese). Hakusensha . Retrieved August 31, 2016.

Hakusensha published the first tankōbon volume on January 19, 2010, and since then a total of forty-two volumes have been released. Viz Media published the first volume in North America on August 2, 2016. THIS WAS SO GOOD. I’ve actually seen the first episode of the anime before, so it was interesting going in already having certain scenes playing out in my head. I definitely felt far more attached to the characters while reading this though! This is a very good manga that’s not exploitative at all nor is it cutesy and childish with the romance. The romantic elements do show a more childish view of things, but the characters are young after all. Maybe it’s just me, but Yuna’s crush on Soo-Won – her cousin – does seem pretty insane, but this is set in a much older time. I don’t know if I’m just officially a lightweight because of mainly reading “fluffy” fiction or if this genuinely was a hard first volume because of the events that took place. I mean, I knew it would NOT be a fluffy read due to the blurb alone, but I don’t think it would be quite as dark? heartbreaking? as it was. Not sure what the right word is, but I definitely won’t be underappreciating my Snow White with the Red Hair volumes anytime soon! LOL! (Definitely missing those fluffy characters!) We don’t really get very much information on this world, the people, or the kingdom. It makes sense, but it still leaves me yearning to understand at least a little bit!
