About this deal

So many people at the party commented on the professionalism of the band, and their fantastic, eclectic mix of music. "

Is that also a commentary on the DJ lifestyle and how it’s so frantic that you rarely have the time to evaluate what you’re doing? Apply the edge of the scraper to the base and working tip to tail, push or pull the scraper along the length of the ski to shave off excess wax. Being a fan of the label, it’s amazing to watch how it’s evolved and grown. At the beginning we were going around to clubs trying out test pressings and I often wonder how everything’s gone from that to this. Sean Hennessy : I certainly think Carol was a great influence on us, and she seemed to take a liking to us right away, but…I don’t remember the first time I met her. You know, I’m sure what David said could’ve happened, though. We sure had some good shows and some bad shows. I mean, I think that our strength was as a performing band even more so than the recording at the time. We were playing out 14, 15 days a month and rehearsing on our off days, so we were playing a lot and we were pretty tight – generally! – as a performing band. Not that we didn’t have our off nights. And sometimes if it is a big show, if David knew or we knew that Carol was going to be there, we may have had a case of nerves. It happens. Andrew Gold co-wrote, co-produced and performed on "The Power of Love", "We've Heard It All Before" and "Run Away"

Step 4: Scrape and Brush

a b Crudgington, Kate (17 May 2023). "Interview: HotWax". Get in her Ears . Retrieved 1 August 2023. Then I looked at my AC converters and called on a good friend who’s got a mastering studio out here and he introduced me to Burl Audio equipment, which has been a massive help.

Jeff Bailey (bass, 1989-1991) : Carol was fun. She was a lot of fun. You could joke with her, and it was just fun hanging around her. She was good at protecting us from other stuff. If there was something going on, if there was some sort of business deal or some sort of problem with a club owner or a booking situation, she was really good at saying, “Okay, you guys just go and have fun, I’ll take care of this.” And then she call out the goon squad. I mean, not really, but you know what I mean. It was fun being around her, and she was open to a whole bunch of suggestions. She loved the music we were working on, and it was easy to impress her. We’d play something, and she’d go, “Wow, that was great!” So, yeah, it was fun working with her, and I don’t think it ever stopped being fun.

Step 3: Work in Wax

Sim-Savage and Sam took inspiration from Karen O, Starcrawler, [3] and Yeah Yeah Yeahs when formulating their vision for HotWax. Sim-Savage primarily writes the band's lyrics. [1] The trio's debut EP A Thousand Times drew comparisons to The White Stripes, Hole, and Wolf Alice. [13] I would say that, but I’ve also got the access that I never had to other musicians. I feel like I’m at a stage in my journey where I can call upon the really high-level collaborators that I want to play on my records, whether that’s big classical composers like Steven Bentley-Klein, saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings or vocalist Greentea Peng. Yet another great all-girl band pushing the musical narrative forward, Hotwax are going to be big. They have the songs that come armed with mighty choruses, they have the inventiveness to stake out their own sound and they are all brilliant players.

I’ve obviously tried working with different producers and know that my process is very different because I don’t turn up with something that’s finished. All of my collaborators go on a journey with me and don’t know where I’m going. I just know what I need, and when I’ve got enough material I’ll go away and do the alchemy. Waxx are AMAZING so amazing that we've booked them again... and this time its 4 weeks instead of 2!" In 2020, HotWax began self-releasing singles, including "Stay Cool", "Pat the Killer Cat", "When We're Dead", and "Barbie (Not Yours)". [4] Jamieson, Sarah (1 August 2023). "HotWax: "We just write what we want to play live" ". DIY . Retrieved 1 August 2023. A voice inside of me told me not to resist that, so I thought about how I’d feel if this really was the last record I was ever going to make and, if so, what would I make? It woke something up in me and I thought I’m going to go even deeper now and maybe create some healing out of this too.a b Loftin, Steven (19 May 2023). "HotWax want your attention now with their new EP, 'A Thousand Times' ". Dork . Retrieved 1 August 2023. Sean Hennessy : You know, it’s funny, but I don’t remember that being the experience. It just seemed very organic to me. We just seemed to go from just wanting to get together to play to “wouldn’t it be fun to play out live?” And everything sort of just seemed to lead to the next step. It’s very hard to find someone at these companies to talk to these days – and I’m not talking about sales reps, but people who actually use the gear and are passionate about it The highlight of the evening was their rendition of "Me and Mrs Jones", which they learned especially for the occasion. A very difficult song to learn, I might add, but awesomely performed.
